Norfolk Broads<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The Norfolk Broads is a wide stretch of wetland and it is the third largest inland water way of the United Kingdom. Located in the south of England, it is near to Lowestoft Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Norfolk Broads is a perfect place to go if you are looking for a boat holiday as it has so many rivers and locks, some of which can even link to the sea (via River Waveney). As there is plenty of water, there are also plenty of water activities on offer too. There are many boat hiring companies and schools where you can be taught practically any water-based skill (such as canoeing, sailing etc.)
There have been some weather related disasters such as the tornado that hit the Norfolk Broads in October 2001 which caused local destruction. Also, due to the Norfolk Broads being a wet land, the chance of flooding is a lot higher than some parts of the UK and it has been suggested that the Norfolk Broads will start to flood gradually. Eventually the whole area could be fully submerged beneath the sea!
Summer
The summer time in Norfolk is fickle (typical to most UK destinations) so even if you plan to come in the summer it is still advisable to check the forecast and bring warm clothes. The average temperature in summer ranges from 10.6°C and 20.6°C, but it has been known to get hotter. The chance of rain is quite high for summer, as it is with most UK destinations! Norfolk receives on average 50.5mm on rainfall in August alone.
Spring
In spring the weather can get quite cold with the highest average temperature being 14.4°C while the lowest average temperature is about 3.2°C. Advisable once again that you do bring warm clothing with you whenever you come to the Norfolk Broads! The typical amount rainfall is less than in summer which may surprise you; the highest average of rain fall is 41.5mm and the lowest is 39.8mm with precipitation occurring on approximately 10 days throughout the three spring time months.
Autumn
The weather at the start of autumn is usually slightly warmer than the temperatures in the spring months with the highest average temperature being at 18.2°C. However, near to the end of autumn, the weather starts to get a bit cooler with lowest average temperature at 4.6°C in November.
Winter
The temperature in winter in the Norfolk Broads is cold but not as nippy as some weather found in the north of England. The lowest average temperature during the winter months is 1.8°C which is the average for both January and February. The typical level of frost is also higher in winter, for example, in December there is an average of 5.8 days of frost.
