Weather Lowdown

Puerto de Santiago is experiencing the height of summer this month, second only to the temperatures in August and even then only by a very small amount. This is a great time to visit the resort as many European countries will see their children going back to school meaning that there might be a bit more space on the beach for you.

September will bring average daily temperatures of 24°C, with the highs ranging up as far as 28°C and the lows only to a lovely 22°C. That means you are pretty much guaranteed warm weather all day. One of the slight downsides to this month's climate is that rainfall is once again on the increase: around 4 days of rain will produce an average of 19mm. Still, look on the bright side with 26 days free of rain, there is every chance that you will not see any during your stay! You can also keep an eye on this to make sure that you have planned your daily excursions properly by checking the weather forecast. This will ensure that you don't get caught without a hat or umbrella when the rain does come!

11 hours of sunshine will illuminate the resort, and that means the sea temperatures stay pretty high as well. You will find yourself taking a dip in waters that are 23°C on average, meaning that you won't be shivering under the waves. The Canary Islands are very popular for swimming and water sports at this time of year, so you will find yourself presented with lots of opportunities to take advantage of that. Whether you stay here or at the bottom end of Tenerife in resorts like Costa del Silencio, you will find the same great climate. This is a great choice thanks to the fantastic beaches that you will be able to fully enjoy in the beautiful late summer weather.

Where to Stay

The Apartamento Tagara Beach is a great option for those who want to enjoy September's fading sun before the winter starts to kick in. Here there is a central pool as well as a restaurant, so you never have to leave the complex if you do not want to.

Otherwise, you may wish to get out and about a bit more. As well as a restaurant, bar, and barbecue facilities, Apartamentos la Avenida Playa la Arena also offer the chance to rent a bicycle if you wish. This is a great way to get around the local area, even if you only choose to do so for one day of your stay!

The privately owned Apartment Sunset is a real steal, so you will want to get in there quickly. Here you will find a fully furnished balcony that looks out over the water, with views of the island of La Gomera and an outdoor pool.

Things to Do

The weather is great in September, so take full advantage of it! You can go ahead and snorkel in the sea to find out what kind of fish you might see there, or just as a way to spend your day swimming and having fun.

Head to the Jungle Park in order to see wild animals up close and personal. Shows feature sea lions and exotic birds, and there are over 300 animals here for you to meet and explore. It's all set in lush jungle vegetation which grows wild here.

You can also go whale watching from one of the many catamaran tours that are offered in Puerto de Santiago, Playa de las Americas, and nearby regions. These all have their selling points, so be sure to check several out before you decide.

Hit the Beach

Puerto de Santiago has its own beautiful beach, which is perfect for lots of water-based activities. It may not have as many facilities as nearby Playa de la Arena, but this also means that you may get more space to yourself. It is to be found at the bottom of a steep hill, and the sand is naturally black thanks to volcanic activity in the region.

The waves here are normally calm, which makes it great for swimming or just playing in the water. Children will be better able to swim here than at the bigger tourist beaches, where the sea can get choppy. A romantic stroll here in the evening is also just the ticket, so be sure to give it a go if you are here with a loved one.

Restaurants and Nightlife

If you want filling steaks and spare ribs, Restaurant Asador El Estero is a fantastic choice. Here you will be spoiled by the ambience, the attentive staff, and the huge plates of food that will be served in front of you.

No holiday resort is complete without an Irish pub, and The Blarney Stone can fill in the gap for you here. You can watch live rugby and football at this pub or just try a few pints of Guinness, with a fantastic carvery on offer when you start to get hungry.

If it's tapas you're after, then the name says it all: Tapas y Mas Tapas has to be your choice. They serve fresh fish, meat, local produce, and a variety of local cheeses. This means you can pick and choose whatever you like while still offering strong support to local businesses.
