Weather Lowdown

October is the beginning of the autumnal season in Puerto de Santiago, which means that you will see the weather starting to cool off a little bit. The good news is that it will not cool off by much, so you can still enjoy a great holiday in a warm climate and get the most out of your time on the beach.

It is important to note that there are 10 average hours of sunshine a day, so even if the winter is drawing closer, it is certainly not here yet. Those 10 hours will produce temperatures at an average of 23°C a day, which is a fairly average temperature at this time of year for the whole of the Canary Islands. In other words, you have chosen a fantastic resort for enjoying the best kind of weather that you can get here!

The average highs and lows create a span which is not very wide, with 26°C and 21°C at either end. This means you can predict fairly well how the weather is going to be each day, though of course you can check a weather forecast if that makes you feel more comfortable. Swimming in the sea is definitely still possible, with an average water temperature of 23°C that is maintained from the peak summer months.

The one thing that you do have to look out for is the storms. At this time of year a more tropical climate forms, meaning that despite the heat there will also be some rainfall. Around 52mm will fall over 6 days on average, so watch out for that and make sure that you do have an umbrella or a light rain coat when you are venturing out on excursions.

If you want something drier, head upwards. The North of Tenerife sees better weather at this time of year in terms of rainfall, with only 20mm falling less than half of what you would see here. This does not mean Puerto de Santiago does not have its own charms though with mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine!

Where to Stay

The Proyco Mar Apartment is a self-catered apartment available for rent through various portals. It offers sea views and also has a fully furnished private balcony where you can relax for as long as you want to. These kinds of apartments are popular in October, when it is not as important to get by the pool!

The Villa Amedine is better suited to big families or those who are used to luxury, with three bedrooms and a private pool terrace. You can also find barbecue facilities there if you want to cook up a storm, while you look out over the sparkling blue waters.

The Punta Negra complex offers all kinds of rentals, differing in size and in facilities so that you can find the one that suits you the best. The whole complex is right by the seafront and also offers facilities such as bars and restaurants within easy reach.

Things to Do

The weather is getting cooler now that October is here, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun. Lots of watersports can be enjoyed on the beach, from swimming and snorkelling through to riding jet skis and even renting a boat for the afternoon.

You can also enjoy walking the Masca Gorge, much easier without the full heat of the sun. This beautiful area offers hiking and walking tours which are hugely popular. They are also suitable for families due to the easy nature of the terrain, despite the amazing views that it offers.

While you are there, you can also call in at the King's Cave. This is a local bodega which is famous for its wine tasting experience, allowing you to sample some of the delicious drinks that are produced right there in the region.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Eating Spanish food is the obvious option almost too obvious! Why not try German cuisine instead, at Bei Uwe? The meals here are a little pricier, but you will see why: they are presented by expert chefs in a gourmet manner, and taste exquisite.

The Plaza De Puerto De Santiago is a bar and grill which offers more traditional food for the area, which will be great if you want to make the most of your holiday by sampling local cuisine. The view is fantastic too, right over the ocean.

The Chicken Shack is the place to go for simple and cheap food with no fuss. The atmosphere is great, and their signature dishes include chicken and chips, salad, and garlic bread. The owners are always on hand to ensure the night will go well.
