Weather Lowdown

It is still winter in February, and you will certainly notice that the weather is at its coolest in Puerto de Santiago at this time. It is in fact the same kind of climate as you would find in January, with average temperatures staying mostly the same.

The average daily temperature remains steady at 18°C, with highs of 21°C and lows of 16°C. There are an average of 9 hours of sunshine a day, which helps the sea temperature to stay around 19°C. It's definitely still just about warm enough to go swimming, so don't worry about that!

Other parts of the Canary Islands remain at a very similar level. Over on Gran Canaria you will find Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the average temperatures are all much the same, except for the lowers dropping a little bit below what you would see here. It seems that this is as good a resort as any to choose at this time of year, so you are not missing out on better weather on another part of these islands.

The average rainfall for the month stands at 69mm over 6 days, so you can be sure that even a two-week holiday might be dry throughout. Just keep your fingers crossed and keep an eye on the forecast, and you may well be lucky. If it does happen to rain, the consolation is that the weather is not at its hottest anyway so you are not missing out on peak sunshine.

While it is considered to be winter here, remember that the climate is still very mild. It is still possible to get sunburn or even sunstroke in these temperatures, so cover yourself up if you are spending extended hours in the sun. Be sure to enjoy the attractions such as the beach as these are still fun year-round.

Where to Stay

The Be Live Experience Playa La Arena looks absolutely stunning, and even the view from your hotel room here will take your mind off the February weather. This place defines luxury in the area, and offers some amazing pools as well as access straight to the beach. The photographs are beautiful, but even so, you have to see it to believe it.

Then there is the Club La Mar, which has a more traditional look. They offer lots of great excursions to just about every point on interest in Tenerife, so you can be sure that you do not need to organise anything yourself if you choose to stay here. It's a great budget option too if you want to save some spending money.

If your priority is a room overlooking the pool and plenty of amenities, then the El Marques Palace by Intercorp Hotel Group could be right for you. It offers tennis, water sports, a snack bar, car rental, free Wi-Fi, and of course easy access to the beach.

Things to Do

While it might be a bit colder in February, a heated pool means there is no excuse for not splashing around. Make sure that you book a hotel where the pool stays warm year-round so that you can take the time to swim, stay fit, and just enjoy being in the water.

Your hotel might also be able to organise an excursion to the Medieval Adventure. Hiring a car will also give you the chance to get there by yourself, as this jousting and fighting spectacle is not to be missed. Dinner and a show are included so that you can spend the whole evening there.

You can also head over to Highland Paddy 2 if you want to drink and dance the night away. This is a traditional Irish pub which has been converted into more of a nightlife spot, making it very popular with tourists. If you want to meet other English speakers, this is definitely the place!

Restaurants and Nightlife

If you want a wine bar that also serves food, The Lounge is a great choice. It was more of a pub-café before coming under new management, and now serves as a fantastic place to meet new people or spend a relaxing evening listening to live entertainment.

Nothing goes down better when you are on holiday than a nice cold ice cream, and you can choose from all kinds of flavours at Cappuccino Maria. This place also serves snacks, so you can spend lunchtime here very easily.

Finally, there's The Fisherman's Inn. They serve seafood and Spanish cuisine here, in a lovely setting that looks out over the water. Be prepared for filling dishes which nevertheless are very well presented, making this very good value for money.
