Lanzarote Beach for June
El Reducto Beach
With daily highs of up to 26°C, June is a great month to hit El Reducto Beach, the most popular beach in Arrecife. This beach is made up of soft, fine golden sands which stretch on for around 45m by 500m.
The sea here is reliably calm and clear, making it perfect for swimming. Although during low tide, the sea can be difficult to get in, due to the rocky reef that is revealed when the sea goes out.
Onsite facilities and services include: sun loungers, shades, showers, changing areas, toilets and lifeguards, with a bus stop, parking and telephones just back from the beach and a plethora of bars and restaurants along the promenade.
Famara Beach
Wind conditions are at their strongest between May and August, making June a fantastic time to try your hand at some wind-based water sports. Lanzarote Surf Kite SUP organises thee-hour surf courses at Famara Beach for individual surfers and groups of up to six people.
Famara Beach curves around the coast for 6km and receives swell from west-north, with winds from southwest-east. The centre of the bay gets most of the swell, but be aware that the sandbanks close at 8-10ft faces. Surfing at the north side of the beach should only be attempted by experts, where the waves can get fast and hollow at the lower side.
Lanzarote Surf Kite SUP holds their beginner surf classes at the south end, where the waves are smaller and easier. The only things you need to be aware of are strong sideshore drift and currents.
Things to do in Lanzarote in June
Aqua Park
June is one of the best times of year to visit Aqua Park, when the water will be warm enough for swimming, but the park won't be crowded with the masses of people who show up during the summer holidays.
This family-friendly water park is situated in Costa Teguise and offers four splash zones for small children, nine adrenaline-pumping slides and four family-friendly zones which include two large swimming pools, an obstacle course and paintballing. There are also two restaurants and four shops located onsite, as well as several solariums throughout which have free sun loungers and parasols.
Cueva de los Verdes
If the summer sunshine gets a bit too much for you, take shelter at Cueva de los Verdes in Haría in the north of the island. This network of caves is the result of the Corona Volcano erupting and features at least 16 different volcano openings, spread out amongst six miles of underground passageways. In total, the underground caves stretch on for more than 6km from the cone of the volcano down to the sea, but the Cueva de los Verdes through which tours are held is only 1km long and takes one hour to walk down.
During the tour you'll see impressive colour ranges which cover the walls and vaults of the caves. The reds are caused by the oxidisation of the basalts' iron content and the ochre shades are caused by the reflections of light on salt, resulting from the water seeping in from the surface. Cueva de los Verdes is open daily 10am to 6pm and tours are held several times each day in various languages, including English.
Atlantis Diving Lanzarote
Make the most of the warm sea temperatures and go diving during your holiday in Lanzarote in June. Visibility around the islands is usually 10-30m and you'll have the chance to see angel sharks, barracudas, moray eels, bream, cuttlefish, seahorses, wrasse, butterfly rays, groupers, jacks, sardines, octopus and damselfish. Even if you don't spot loads of underwater wildlife, you'll definitely get to see the unique underwater Canarian landscape, with cliffs dipping 200m underwater and rocky shelves in between the islands.
