What's the Weather like in Elounda in July

The weather is perfect in July for spending days on the beach or in the blue sea, and Elounda is the place to go for enjoying the sun and relaxing in the bars in the evening. This is one of the busiest months in the summer as school holidays begin, although it is not as crowded as some other nearby resorts in Crete. The temperature and amount of rain seen in July is a lot like nearby Malta.

Temperature

Temperatures are fairly constant throughout the whole month. It is a great time to cool off by having a swim in the sea. Have a look at the up to date forecast before travelling for detailed information. Average temperatures are 250C in the day and the average high and low temperatures vary from a beautiful 280C during the day to a warm 210C at night. The hottest temperature this resort has experienced in this month was 360C, and the lowest was 210C, so visitors at this time of year are pretty much guaranteed to get gorgeous warm weather for their holiday.

Average Sunshine Hours

July sees the most amount of daily hours of sunshine of the whole year, around 14 hours of sunshine each day. There is very little cloud cover on most days, and the sky is clear around 80% of the time. The sun rises at about 6am at the start of the month and sets at 8.30pm. The winds are calm to fresh, 0 m/s to 9 m/s, but sometimes pick up to around 11 m/s, which is a welcome relief on those hot days. Bear in mind the wind can make beach and sea activities a little breezy, especially if planning to go out on a boat or sailing.

Beach in Elounda for July

Kolokkithia Beach

Situated close to Elounda is the stunning Kolokkithia beach. This smaller beach can be reached by car or walking from the main resort, and is perfect for snorkelling and spotting marine life in the sea. With amazingly clear waters, a gentle sloping sandy beach and lovely natural surroundings, this is a good alternative to the main beach in town and a great place to spend a day when the sea temperatures are around 250C. There are very few facilities so bring your own supplies of food and drink, and go early in the day to avoid the crowds in the middle of the day.

Bars and Restaurants

Vachus Restaurant

Located opposite the main beach at Elounda, is the Vachus restaurant. With tasty local Cretan dishes such as fish, seafood, moussaka, meats and vegetarian options, the friendly efficient service and great views form the restaurant make this a good spot for lunch or dinner. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere, helpful staff and all at great value. Make sure you head to the harbour during your visit to the town and sample the food at this lovely location.

Megaro

Megaro restaurant is located in Elounda square and serves great quality seafood for lunch and dinner. With traditional Greek dishes on offer as well as grilled fish large seafood platters and meats, this is beautifully situated on the water's edge so you can watch the fish swim by in the sea as you dine. The portion sizes are generous and the staff are friendly and attentive in this popular restaurant.

Thalassa Restaurant

The harbour side taverna Thalassa restaurant serves delicious Greek food and fresh seafood overlooking the sea. Located in nearby Plaka, choose to dine outdoors on a table on the terrace or indoors in the restaurant. With good quality house wines and local beers, the lunch or dinner menus are authentic Greek and Cretan cuisine and the views to Spinalonga island are fantastic.

Things to do in Elounda in July

Spinalonga Island

On the warm, sunny days in July, make sure you visit the Spinalonga Island located just off the cost of Elounda Bay. This island is not only beautiful but has a lot of history as a leper colony, and some of the old buildings are still there to be visited. The island can be reached by boat from either Elounda or Plaka port, and guided tours are available to learn more information about the island's history. A restaurant is also on the island for a relaxing meal or drink after exploring.

Acqua Plus Waterpark

The Acqua Plus waterpark is located around 45 minutes' drive away from Elounda and make a great day out in the hot sunny July days for the whole family. Split into two sections, one designed for smaller children, and the other for adults with bigger, more adventurous slides, the waterpark is situated in lush gardens and is a pleasant place to spend a day, even for those not using the slides. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for people wanting to sunbathe and relax, and lifeguards are on duty, with lockers provided for a fee for belongings and plenty of casual dining options.
