Climate
Winter is probably not the best time to visit Rovinj as the weather can be a bit uncomfortable, along with the fact that many of the galleries and shops are open only on a limited schedule. However, the average annual temperature is 16ºC, with the lows in January being around 4.8ºC and the highs approaching 27ºC in July. The average annual rainfall is about 941 mm with the average humidity standing at a very comfortable at 71%.

Rovinj does get hit by some notable winds, for example, the Bora and Scirocco winds. The cold Bora wind blows in from the Northeast, vertically descending the mountain slopes towards the sea, while the Scirocco is a southern warm wind coming off the sea. For the most part, these winds do not provide discomfort and wonât overly effect your holiday.
Monthly averages
January sees cold temperatures during the day of 8ºC with night temperatures dropping to 5ºC. There are only 3 hours of sun during the day even though there are about 9 hours of daylight. During the month of January, there will be approximately 12 days with rain averaging 76 mm of rainfall. The temperature of the ocean waters flows at 12ºC, but the UV index is low, so enjoying a bright and sunny day is not problematic.
February warms up just a little bit with daytime temperatures finding 9ºC and nighttime falling to 4ºC. The days are similar to Januaryâs, perhaps a little less rain, but 10 days of possible rain can be expected during this month.
March moves up the scale a little bit, but only by a couple of degrees. Thereâs a bit more sunshine, longer days and the odd chance of rainfall remains. The sea water temperature is a little warmer and the UV index is moving from low up into the moderate range.
April brings 14 hours of daylight each day with the daytime temperatures reaching 16ºC. There are about 6 hours of sunshine during these days with the ever-present chance of rain; about 13 days for the month measuring 79 mm.
Everything is considerably warmer by the time May rolls around. The sunshine days are longer, the daytime temperatures are higher (21ºC) and the UV index now generally reads in the high category. There are 8 hours of sunshine and 15 hours of daylight, though rain still kicks in at 71 mm for the month.
June heats up to 25ºC during the day, falling to 17ºC during the night but the nights are shorter with daylight now consuming about 16 of each 24 hours. The sea temperatures stand at around 22ºC and the UV index also rises, now measuring in the very high range.
July and August are very similar months with daytime temperatures averaging around 27ºC. The nighttime temperatures drop a little, but are still very comfortable for enjoying Rovinjâs nightlife. Rainfall is moderate during these two months, yet there is a considerable amount of sunshine on average; up to 10 hours of sun per day. The sea temperatures are warm, but bathers beware as the UV index is still very high.
September begins the cooling process looking ahead into the winter months. The sea temperatures begin to drop a little, the UV index drops along with daily hours of sunshine, clocking in at around 8 or 9 hours per day.
October sees fewer guests, yet the average temperature is still pleasant. Daytime highs may reach 19ºC with lows coming in at 12ºC. Rainfall seems to increase a little, averaging 12 days measuring around 91 mm. The sea temperature is a little cooler, but still appealing - albeit for truly dedicated swimmers.
November and December tend to be a bit cold and wet. November can measure as much as 113 mm of rainfall, with a couple more days of rain during the month. The daytime temperatures will fall between 10ºC and 13ºC with only between 3 and 4 hours of sunlight per day. The sea temperatures have now dropped considerably, down to as low as 14ºC.
Rovinjâs climate is conducive to all kinds of activities, from sun bathing to hiking, cycling and sight seeing.
