If you want a little more space, try the Lisbon Short Stay Apartments Baixa. Near the sea, it is located in the historic district by the city centre. There is a metro station nearby and you are within walking distance to the Lisbon Cathedral, Commerce Square and the Lisbon City Hall.

The Memmo Alfama Hotel 

The Memmo Alfama Hotel is a beautiful property in city central also. The wine bar terrace overlooks the Alfama and Tagus rivers. The hotel concierge offers city and area tours of various durations tailored to whatever you wish to see or visit.

Lavra Guesthouse Hotel

The Lavra Guesthouse Hotel on Avenida da Liberdade is housed in recently renovated building dating to the 1700s. With only 25 rooms, you will have to book early to get this bargain. The Pensao Londres is downtown on the Rua D. Pedro V. A budget hotel, most rooms have private baths. The nightlife of Bairro Alto and Principe Real is within walking distance.

Pestana Palace Hotel

Want something more elegant? The Pestana Palace Hotel reeks luxury. Classified as a national monument, it is the usual choice of the rich and famous. There is a health club, indoor pool and gourmet restaurant within the confines of the hotel grounds.

Tivoli Oriente Hotel

A good choice for business or leisure travellers is the Tivoli Oriente Hotel.  Located in the Parque das Nacoes, it is convenient to the tourist sites as well as the business sections of the city. There is also an indoor pool.

Lisbon Beaches in March

The Praia das Marcas

or apples beach, got its name from the nearby orchards where apples used to fall from the trees and get carried into the sea by the Colares river.  Popular with families and surfers, there is a 100 year old tram in Sintra that will get you there if you want to experience the rolling countryside and scenery.

Praia da Aguda

Nearby is the Praia da Aguda. There are no facilities and you can only access the beach by a very steep set of stairs. It is a great place to enjoy a quiet day at the beach.

Praia da Ursa

Rated as one of the best beaches in the world, the Praia da Ursa has soft white sand and even a small waterfall to lure the traveller to its shores. Access is difficult. You must get off at one of the bus stops in Ursa and walk 20 minutes to the ocean front. It is worth the walk and the waves are stupendous for surfers.

Bars and Restaurants

Cinco Lounge

If you like cocktails try the Cinco Lounge in Principe Real. Original cocktails with a sophisticated décor dominate the atmosphere. Parts of the snack offerings here include sushi and local favourites.

A Ginginha on Largo de Sao Domingos

Another great place for a drink is A Ginginha on Largo de Sao Domingos. The name refers to a local cherry brandy. The small bar is the traditional home of the drink. Sample the strong, sweet alcohol that's based on wine infused with cherries and lots of sugar.

The Restaurante Casanova

The Restaurante Casanova has a beautiful outdoor terrace facing the river. A popular pizzeria, you will need to get there early as the lines are very long most days. The speciality desert is a Nutella pizza.

Restaurante Oficina do Duque

In Chiado try the Restaurante Oficina do Duque. Tapas are the house speciality. There is a nice terrace and the kitchen is open to the eating areas. The perfect place for friends, couples and families, especially if the sun is shining. 

Tivoli Hotel

Even if you are not staying at the Tivoli Hotel, the top floor houses a great Portuguese cuisine restaurant with some of the best views in the city. They serve buffet style for lunch and a la carte for dinner.

Restaurante As Salgadeiras

The Restaurante As Salgadeiras is a very rustic style, traditional eatery in Bairro Alto. Formerly housing a bakery, the décor with the large stone arcs and brick oven make it a very pleasant place to dine. They specialize in Northern Portuguese dishes from Alentejo.

Bio

If you are a vegetarian try Bio. The food is home cooked, tasty and very low priced. You can get lunch there Monday through Friday and dinner six days a week. Treat yourself to a healthy meal for an ideal price. This place keeps you coming back.

A Brasileira

Another great local place is A Brasileira. Over 100 years old, it is a local watering hole where friends meet for coffee before the theatre. Go here to be social and grab a quick or relaxed drink.

Things to do in Lisbon in March

Golf do Estoril

The warm but mild temperatures mean this is a perfect time to head to one of Lisbon's many golf courses. The 18 hole Golf do Estoril has hosted the Portuguese open tournament several times, and you wish to take a long break there you can stay at the Hotel Palacio. 

Lisbon Sports Club

Lisbon Sports club features an 18 hole course as well as a clubhouse with restaurant and bar. The Quinta da Beloura Golfe is set among dense woodlands and lakes, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Sailing enthusiasts should head to Cascais and Estoril for the King Juan Carlos' Cup, which is an international sailing regatta. 
 

Marathon

And those of you who compete in marathons may join the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon which sees over 25,000 people taking part. This is an exciting event due to the amount of people that get involved.

Jerome's Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery

Jerome's Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery was built in the early 1500s. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site the architecture and history associated with the site make it a must-see for visitors to Lisbon. There are also two museums on-site.

Church of Santa Engracia

The Church of Santa Engracia is best known for its tombs. Many famous statesmen and artists are buried in the church. For anyone interested in history this is a must visit. 

The Bernado Museum

The Bernado Museum is a relatively new museum that opened in 2007. The works of Picasso, Dali, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and many others are part of the collection housed here.

The Design Museum

The Design Museum (Mude) contains some of the most important design pieces of the 20th century including landmark Christian Dior fashions and others. Trends from around the world are represented.
