The Palmeral of Elche is Europe's only Palm Forest and the setting is just incredible. This was acknowledged as a World Heritage Site in 2000 by UNESCO, and a stroll through the palm grove is a great way to spend a day.
Guadalest Valley
Meanwhile in Alicante, a popular excursion is a journey to Guadalest Valley. Visitors will get to see many museums, and a variety of shops and restaurants, too. The valley itself provides one of the most striking landscapes to be seen throughout the whole of Costa Blanca.
The May Fair
The major event in the events calendar for May is the May Fair in Torrevieja. This is a week of Andalusia festivities and it attracts thousands of visitors from across Spain. Although the programme is yet to be confirmed for 2013, the expected events within this fair are likely to include wine tasting of some of Andalusia's finest wines, flamenco dancing and a procession of all ages on horseback and in carriages. Traditional costumes are generally the order of the event.
Cruces de Mayo
In Alicante city, May sees the regular flower fiesta, known to the locals as Cruces de Mayo. The area of Santa Cruz dresses up quite literally in flowers with awards being handed out to the best designs. As the evenings get warmer, the formations look even better at night time.
