What's the Weather like in Costa Blanca in April

Average Sunshine Hours

The tide is turning in terms of the heat, as it really begins to make its presence felt across the whole of the Costa Blanca. Average amount of sunshine hours per day increases from seven in March to nine throughout April.

The sea temperature rises by an extra degree to 15 during the month, and with a temperature low of 10 degrees Celsius, milder nights become more frequent.

Costa Blanca Hotels in April

Poseidon Palaca Hotel

Three-star locations might not sound luxurious, but sometimes, the class of the hotel doesn't always matter. That is the case with the Poseidon Palace Hotel in Benidorm. Two large swimming pools are based on the resort, with a host of quizzes and sports taking place throughout the day. Live music and dancing come together for the evening on-site entertainment. Alternatively, the popular Levante Beach is just a 10-minute walk from the Poseidon Palace, but this is a fine choice for families to come to for their Costa Blanca experience.

La Racona

Located on the fringes of the Montgo Natural Park, self-catering travellers might prefer going to Denia to set-up base at La Racona. Choose from cosy bungalows and enjoy gratifying views of the nearby mountains, as well as clean swimming pools and good tennis court facilities.

Areca

For more spacious comfort, try Areca in Elche. The establishment is home to a heated indoor swimming pool, 72 guest rooms across three floors, conference facilities and a sauna/steam room (at an additional cost).

Villas

Villas are becoming more popular for tourists visiting Costa Blanca on holiday, and up there with the best is a rental villa property in Xabia. It has three bedrooms, along with a private pool, views of the nearby sea and can sleep upto seven people. This villa is a real standout.

Hotel Rocamar

Hotel Rocamar is a small bed and breakfast hotel with 25 rooms for paying guests. Facilities on the site include a fitness centre, free breakfast and wheelchair access.

Beaches in Costa Blanca for April

Les Rotes

Les Rotes beach near Denia is perfect for many things. Experimental, active holidaymakers should give scuba diving or snorkelling a go, as it won't get much better anywhere else in the area. Of course, when the sun shines, plenty of sun worshippers will just want to bathe in the sun and the coves on this beach mean it is a popular destination for picnic eaters.

Arenal

Another fine beach to head to is Arenal in Javea. Jet-ski tours are available, as are boat tours further ashore. This beach has wheelchair access, while the bay has a great choice of bars and restaurants throughout the promenade. The summer months get busy as expected, so April is a good time to come to this beach and see what it has to offer without so many crowds and hustle and bustle.

Restaurants and Bars

La Tasca del Pueblo

Should you be looking to enjoy some local tapas, La Tasca del Pueblo does some of the best around. If you're not keen on tapas, there's also a good choice of fish and grilled meats to choose from.

Restaurante Mexico

In terms of eating out, another good option is Restaurante Mexico on the Mar Azul beach in Torrevieja. This is a great place to dine to mark all kinds of occasions, with a real Mexican party mood brought livening up every evening. The portions are quite generous and reasonably priced, too. The famous fajitas are the restaurant's most popular dish, and the service is top notch.

Casino Mediterraneo

One of the best nightspots for those who like to throw a bit of caution to the wind of an evening is Casino Mediterraneo in Torrevieja. All-year round, tournaments and events are held, and there are the standard blackjack, poker and roulette tables to try your luck on. Better get practising your poker face

Cocoon

Providing more of a chilled out experience is Cocoon in Altea. Sip your favourite beverage to an eclectic mix of dance music, while soaking up the stunning views of the sun setting over the ocean.

Things to do in Costa Blanca in April

Javea Golf Course

April signals the beginning of better weather and it is effectively the start of the golfing season. While the professionals will be battling for supremacy in the first major of the season at the US Masters in Augusta, amateurs can come to Javea to play on the Javea Golf course. Opened in 1981, the nine-hole course is situated 100 kilometres away from Alicante, but offers some lovely scenery with the green fairways in-between pinewoods. It isn't an easy course to tame, and with 34 bunkers in total, there is a fair chance many will have to play out of sand at some point.

Parque Natural de Penyal D'Ifach

Alternatively, the Parque Natural de Penyal D'Ifach in the calmer area of Calpe offers some excellent views of the sea and the cliffs, and is a great place for walkers to take in some of Costa Blanca's more exotic areas.

Exhibition of Model Boats

The 10th exhibition of model boats in Torrevieja actually starts in March, but concludes in mid-April. It is free to take a look around over 150 model boats in the Parque de las Naciones.

Yecla

Around the same period is the second discount samples and furniture fair, as organised by Yecla. The 2012 edition was the first time this event was held, and over 60 furniture shops and manufacturers turned up. This year's event promises to be bigger and better; and it isn't just about looking at chairs and sofas. The children will have entertainment on hand in the form of a bouncy castle and face painting, while a comedy show should keep everything on a humorous scale for the adults.

Moors and Christians Festival

A more traditional fiesta is the Moors and Christians Festival in Alicante. Many people from Costa Blanca are deeply religious and remember their home's history proudly. This celebrates the time when Spain was recaptured from the Arabs during the 12th century.  The festival also takes place in other areas of the country in June and August, but it is April when it is appreciated in Alicante.
