Zante, also known as 'Zakynthos' is one of the most popular Greek islands due to its fine sand beaches, Venetian style architecture and wild nightlife.
There are a wide range of restaurants to choose from in Zante catering for all tastes. Whether you want to sample some tapas, Greek mezze or just some good old British pub grub, Zante has it covered.
Some of the best places to head to for great food are Laganas, Tsilivi and Kalamaki. You will find a number of Greek restaurants, Mediterranean eateries and British pubs dotted around these resorts.
Greek
A majority of restaurants in Zante serve delicious and authentic Greek cuisine. If you want to try some of the local favourites make sure to look out for 'moussaka', which is usually made up of aubergine, tomatoes and minced meat. Also make sure to try some 'Snapakopita', this Is made of spinach, feta cheese, onions and filo pastry. As many of Zante's resorts can be found along the coastline, many Greek restaurants serve fresh seafood including lobster, prawns, monkfish and crab.
Essence Restaurant is a very popular eatery found in Kalamaki. If you decide to eat here one night make sure to try the lamb shank with mini moussaka or the delicious fresh monkfish. This is one of the best places on the island to taste traditional Greek food with a modern twist. If you want somewhere with an authentic Greek ambience look no further than the Parthenon Restaurant, also situated in Kalamaki. This lively place serves freshly caught seafood including king prawns, and Greek favourites such as saltimbocca and beef stifado.
On the other hand the Summertime Bar is a great family friendly restaurant located in Tsilivi. Some of the best dishes to try are Maria's homemade moussaka and Peter's rabbit stew. Whilst if you're staying in Laganas and are strolling down the beach one evening make sure to stop of at The Isles restaurant. This lovely restaurant serves freshly caught seafood and offers a flavoursome healthy Greek salad. On certain nights of the week they also have traditional Greek dancing which adds to the authentic atmosphere!
The Micriacropoli Restaurant & Bar in Tsivili is another fantastic place to try if you want to feast upon classic Greek food. Make sure to try the beef stifado or the moussaka and finish it all off with some tiramisu. However, if you're staying in the charming Keri village why not spend an evening at Taverna To Votsalo. This atmospheric restaurant boasts stunning views over Turtle Island and is a great place to watch the sunset.
Another place for stunning views is Aeras, located in Vromi bay. This is a great place to come to during the middle of the day for a delicious lunch. Tuck into some authentic Greek food whilst taking in the panoramic views.
Mediterranean
There are many restaurants in Zante that serve all kinds of delicious Mediterranean cuisine including fresh seafood and Italian favourites such as pizza and pasta.
Seaside can be found along Laganas Beach and offers a delicious selection of seafood and classic Greek cuisine. Some of the best dishes to try are the prawns and the surf and turf. However, if you're staying in Kalamaki and fancy some authentic Italian cuisine head to Buon Amici for the night. Feast upon some delicious salmon risotto or a thin crust pizza.
A great place to try in Tsilivi is Calypso. This very popular eatery serves anything from a belly busting mixed grill to mouthwatering banoffee pie for desert. Whilst if you're spending your holiday in Alykes you may want to dine at the Relax Restaurant. The deserts here are delicious to! If you have a sweet tooth you must try the ice cream sundae!
Another highly recommended restaurant to try on Laganas Beach is Horizon. Tuck into some mouthwatering seafood whilst taking in the breathtaking sea views.
British and American
Don't worry if you are a bit of a fussy eater or would just prefer some British pub grub as there are many restaurants in Zante that cater towards British tourists.
The Halfway House in Tsivili is a popular pub which serves generous size portions of all the British favourites including lamb chops, pork tenderloin and belly of pork. They also serve a great selection of cocktails and ice-cold beers if you are feeling thirsty. Whilst if you are staying in Alykanas make sure to stop off at The Cosy Corner Restaurant in the morning for a delicious full English breakfast. If you come here in the evening you may want to try one of the giant beef burgers or ribs on offer.
A place to try in Kalamaki is Tazie's, found on the Main Road. You have to try one of the succulent homemade burgers and they even serve some of the best pork gyros found on the island. However, if you're on a night out in Kalamaki you may want to stop off at the Drunk Corner, located down the main strip. Choose from a selection of cheap cocktails and get stuck into a delicious beef burger.
If you're staying in Argassi you may want to try Mind The Gap. They serve anything from T-bone steaks and French fries to healthy salads. They also play all the latest sporting events including premiere league football matches at the bar.
