The four star Best Western Zante Park is located just off the beach in Laganas. It offers modern amenities and a variety of leisure activities. The rooms are large and elegantly decorated, each with satellite television and balcony. There is a pool, sauna and spa providing massages and beauty treatments. The hotel will arrange watersports or horse riding for those interested. There is a buffet breakfast, International and Greek cuisine avaliable, a childrens menu and a special diet menu on request. The Best Western Zante Park is just a ten minute walk from the strip where the restaurants, bars, and shops can be found.
The Aquis Avalon Hotel in Zakynthos town is an adults only facility located on the hillside of Bochali, overlooking the sea but just a half mile walk to the nearest beach. The hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool. Each room has a balcony with either a sea or mountain view and includes a flat screen, satellite television, and refrigerator. A buffet breakfast, plus lunch and dinner are served in the hotel restaurant. A shuttle runs to the airport which is three miles away.
The Lakinthos located on the beach in Tsilivi is a resort with an outdoor pool, restaurant, and seaview terrace. A hearty breakfast is served on the terrace and the restaurant serves International and Greek meals. Each room has a balcony, television and mini-refrigerator. It's situated on the beach close to restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets.
Zante Beach for October
Limni Keriou beach is located near a small, quiet resort on a bay of golden sand and shimmering waters. It is located at the southern part of the island. A couple of taverns are close, offering a view of the small island of Marathonisi. The small port of Keri offers boat tours to the nearby Blue Caves.
Porto Roxa near Zante town, is on a stunning beach where local fishing boats are often moored to the rocks. It's located on the west coast of the island, near the village of Agios Leon. There are high cliffs, rocky bays, and deep fiords. Daredevils often leap from the cliffs and swim in the clear unusually deep waters. Snorkelling here is amazing due to the fascinating sea caves under water.
Bars and Restaurants
The Potami Restaurant in Alykes sits on the riverside on the outskirts of the resort. The location is picturesque and surprisingly peaceful.
Try the toasted herb bread, honeyed lamb and stuffed chicken breast with a plateful of whole courgettes, carrots, and potato wedges. The moussaka is excellent and be sure to have their homemade baklava. The Potami is ideal for families and is reasonably priced.
The Micri Acropoli Restaurant and Bar on the main road of Planos, Tsilivi, is family owned by the brothers Freddie, Billy, and Andreas. It combines blue and white stylish décor reflecting the colours of the Greek flag. Dishes to try include steak with asparagus and cheese, the seafood platter, lamb Kleftico and chicken Stamna or the chicken Kiev. Opened in 2013, the Micri Acropoli is also a beautiful destination for wedding receptions.
El Sueno in Agios Nikoloas boasts gorgeous décor and offers a tasteful drinks menu. It's a family owned restaurant where the mother cooks and father, son and daughter provide the service. Try the spaghetti bolognese, Greek salad, pizza and yummy club sandwich. Don't forget the ice cream and real Italian espresso. Dine on the terrace then take a relaxing walk on the long set of steps down to the beach.
Things to do in Zante in October
The Adamieion Ceramic Art Studio is a pottery studio and craft gallery where you can see the entire process of making ceramics and also buy pottery. Dionysia, the creative force behind the art will greet you with a glass of lemonade. It's a lovely walk up the hill and through the olive groves to reach the studio located in the small village of Marineika, just outside of Tsilivi.
Every tour company on the island offers a day trip to Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympic Games. Olympia was a national shrine and contained many art treasures plus temples, monuments, altars, theaters, statues and votive offerings of brass and marble. It's about an hour on ferry then another hour by coach to reach the modern city of Olympia. The Archaeological Museum of Olympia is one of the most important museums in Greece, it displays many valuable artifacts uncovered from years of excavation. Olympia is the perfect place for a snack and some light shopping too.
The Monastery of Panagia Skopiotissa is the oldest church on the island, built in the 15th century. The church was built in the shape of a cross and is located up a rocky hill near Argassi. It's not only a historical location but also a place to visit for incredible panoramic views of the village, hills and Mediterranean sea below.
