What's The Weather Like In Vilamoura In January

January is one of the coolest months in VilamouraPortgual, but it still manages to see maximum average temperatures of 16°C, making it the perfect place to soak up some winter sun. The month is characterised by warm, sunny days, cool evenings, and the occasional Mediterranean shower. With only 9 days of rainfall on average during January, there are still a lot of rain-free days available for you to get out and enjoy the Vilamoura scenery.

Sunshine Hours

There are 5 hours of sunlight per day during January, rising to 6 towards the end of the month, and the mild night time average temperatures of 8°C ensure you can stay out long after the sun has set but remember to take a warm jumper with you as it is still winter! It's worth packing layers in your luggage, with cool shirts for the daytime and thicker jumpers and jackets for after dark. Pack some sun cream, too, as the sun is still strong at this time of year.

Rain

An average of 78mm of rain falls throughout January in Vilamoura, so slip an umbrella and some waterproofs in as well to make sure you're not caught off-guard.

Temperature

The average daily temperature during January is 12°C, with the start of the month feeling cooler than the end. Thanks to the sea breezes (which blow at around 8MPH at this time of year), there is very little humidity in Vilamoura in January around 65% on average.

Sea Temperature

In summer, tourists flock to Vilamoura for the warm, cobalt waters, but you might want to give this a miss in January as the sea temperature drop to around 15°C. The coastal winds also make the sea choppy and unruly at this time of year fine for fishermen and divers, but not so good for the casual swimmer.

Despite its generally consistent weather conditions, Vilamoura has seen some freak temperatures in January, with the mercury hitting 26°C in 2003 for the highest recorded winter temperature, and dropping to 0°C for the all-time winter low in 2008.

Overall, Vilamoura in January is very pleasant, with lots of sunshine and a few Mediterranean showers. It's much cooler than the soaring heat of the summer months perfect for exploring all that the area has to offer.
