What's The Weather Like In Vilamoura In August

August is the busiest and hottest month in VilamouraPortugal, following on from the sweltering temperatures of July. The Mediterranean weather continues, drawing in tourists from all over the world who are in search of sun, sea, and sand. Busy crowds mean busy beaches and restaurants, though, so be sure to pick out a sunbed early or book a table for dinner to avoid disappointment.

Temperature

The average daily temperature in August is 24°C, but during the hottest part of the day the mercury can soar well above 30°C. August marks the peak of summer, and the temperatures begin to cool off as the month progresses the sweltering average high temperature of 30°C at the start of the month cools off to 26°C at the end.

Make sure you regularly apply a high SPF suncream, especially if you are not used to the Portuguese sun, seek out shade in the early afternoon, and drink lots of liquid to stay hydrated. Even at night, temperatures will rarely fall below 18°C (20°C at the start of the month), so jumpers and layers won't be necessary. Instead, load up your suitcase with lightweight clothing, hats, and swimwear.

Rain

Vilamoura sees very little rain during the summer months, and in August only around 4mm falls throughout the month most of which will be at night. There's no need to slip an umbrella into your suitcase as it's highly unlikely you'll see any precipitation.

Sea Temperature

Thanks to the Mediterranean sun and the calm, lapping waves, the beach is a popular activity for Vilamoura visitors at this time of year. You'll notice the beaches filling up quickly, and there'll be lots of people cooling off in the water at around 21°C, it offers pleasant refreshment against the searing August sun. The calm, coastal breeze also makes the beach one of the coolest places to go in the resort.

Sunshine Hours

With around 11 hours of sunshine per day, you can lounge out on the beach until your heart's content and still have time to see everything else that Vilamoura has to offer. The long, sun-filled days make August one of the most popular times to visit.

The height of summer in Vilamoura is hot and the crowds are much bigger than at any other time of year. But, if you're looking for a heavy dose of sun, sea, and sand, it's the perfect place to kick back and relax.

Vilamoura Beaches For August

Beachgoers are abundant during August in Vilamoura and the warm sands of the resort fill up quickly just as well there's enough beach for everyone. To reserve the best spot, head down to the beach early and enjoy the peace before the afternoon crowds roll in.

Praia Maria Luisa

For an intimate beach experience, head along the coast to Praia Maria Luisa, a medium-sized cove beach with white sands and shimmering, cobalt waters. It is flanked by tall, red-brick cliffs, rugged foliage, and is peppered with huge, unusual rock formations which provide shade from the searing August sun.

Praia de Loule Velho

Another great beach lies in the other direction, just past Quarteira. Praia de Loule Velho is a large expanse of sand, flanked again by tall cliffs that protect the bay from any rouge summer winds. There are a selection of sunbeds to choose from, or more secluded spots to lay down your towel, and the on-site café offers all the refreshment you need.

Bars And Restaurants

La Pizza Loca

La Pizza Loca is a casual, Italian affair, with dark red walls and cosy tables. The menu is filled with typically Italian dishes for when you fancy a break from Portuguese cuisine. Order one of the many pizza, pasta, or risotto dishes to eat in, or take it away and eat it whilst enjoying the sunset on the beach.

O Arco

For innovative Portuguese food, head to O Arco in Vilamoura's Old Town. Try experimental dishes like turbot with almonds, house steak with a hint of mint, and pork fillet wrapped in bacon. There's also traditional Algarve dishes, too, like Cataplanas, fish stew, and Portuguese steak.

No Solo Agua

Head down to No Solo Agua at sunset for one of their famous evening parties. Alternatively, you can visit during the day when it's slightly less lively and indulge in a refreshing cocktail and refuel with one of their many bar snacks including juicy salads and burgers.

Vila Sol Golf Academy and Driving Range

Vilamoura is well-known for its array of high-quality golf courses. If you'd like to try your hand at the sport or are a seasoned pro, head to the Vila Sol Golf Academy and Driving Range, where you can soak up the sun whilst taking on the greens. If you're a complete beginner there are a number of lessons available, as well as classes for children.

Fishing

Hit the water on one of Cruzeiros de Oura's chartered fishing boats and reel in some large game. There's sea shark and tuna to be found, and the trip offers an unusual way to explore Vilamoura. The company also offer dolphin sightseeing excursions, snorkelling, and catamaran trips.

Slide and Splash

August is extremely hot in Vilamoura, and one of the best ways to cool off is to visit one of the nearby waterparks. Slide and Splash is considered one of the biggest parks in the whole of Europe and boasts a vast selection of fun rides, including the tornado, the kamikaze, and a rapids river. In addition, there are also reptile and falconry shows.
