Le Sarten
On the beach front you will find Le Sarten, serving great food in a great location. You can sit at the outdoor tables and watch the beach or indoors. Portions are generous of tasty Cuban food with the pork skewers and chicken dishes a favourite with the tourists. Locals eat here too so you know the food is good. Try the seafood platter with plenty to eat for 2 people full of fresh local seafood.
Casa de Fondue
The Casa de Fondue has a great selection of French/Swiss cuisine with cheese fondue the house specialty. Try the fondue with chicken or beef and the fried cheese is a favourite as are the various steak dishes. Service is good and the prices are reasonable.
Things To Do In Varadero In October
Cardenas
Just 11 miles from Varadero and worth a few hours in is Cardenas, a small town where the horse and cart is more prevalent than cars. There is a statue of Christopher Columbus in Parque Colon, beautiful stained glass windows in the Catedral de la Concepción Inmaculada and the rum factory, Arrechabala is on the beach front and here they make Havana Club and Buccanero Rums. There are factory tours between 9am and 4pm. There is a market in the town and some lovely old buildings to see.
Puente de Bacunayagua
For breathtaking views you need to visit the tallest bridge in Cuba. You can see it on a jeep tour or go to the Puente de Bacunayagua. It traverses the valley and you can see the ocean and watch vultures catching the thermals over the inland valley. There is a bar nearby where you can get a drink and a snack and sit and watch the view. The pina colades are a favourite with the tourists.
Guama Park
For a heart stopping adventure you need to visit Guama Park in the National Park on Zapata Peninsula. This is a crocodile farm where you can hold a crocodile and have your picture taken and watch them being fed. There is a guided tour that takes you from the babies in the swamps to the larger ones in the park.
You get to hold smaller ones and see the incrfedible speed and strength of the larger fully grown crocodiles. An Indian Village is also here and you can stay here if you book early enough. Locals will show how they hunt them with just a bow and arrow and there is a café where you can try crocodile meat. The boat ride to the island is fun and you will see different marine life on the way. There is a smoking ceremony in an Indian hut in the village and you can see how the Indians lived before the area was developed.
