What's The Weather Like In Varadero In May

May in Varadero is the beginning of the wetter season where the temperatures start to rise towards the highs of 31°C. The weather at this time of year can include cyclones and hurricanes towards the end of the hot wet season.

Rain

Temperatures here are warm all year round due to the proximity to the equator and the main monthly difference is the rainfall. Average rainfall is 20mm that falls over just 7 days in sudden storms and cloud bursts. The rest of the days will be sunny and fine. Due to the increasing rainfall there are many activities that are indoors and away from the beach.

The average temperature this month is 25°C that sits between the average high/low temperatures of 20°C and 30°C. Next month sees the highest average temperatures of 31°C that will remain for the next few months and the night time low will also increase in to the low 20s.

Other inclusions include all non-motorised water sports, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, water polo and football. Casa de Al Capone

The Casa de Al Capone is a restaurant in a home was owned by Al Capone that serves great paella and other Cuban selections such as seafood and meats. The walls are lined with clippings and articles and Al Capone and his Cuban hideaway. Views of the beach add to the overall ambience of the place and the bus stops at the door.

Xanadu 

Xanadu is a trip back to 1927 when this amazing building was started and it is the Varadero Golf Club Course Club House. On the ground floor is an a la carte restaurant open from 12 noon to 10:30pm. Located on the 3rd floor is the Panoramic Bar with live music and cocktails and other drinks. The Lobster Dupont is a favourite.

Things To Do In Varadero In May

Zapata Peninsula

The nature lover definitely needs to visit the Zapata Peninsula where you will find the largest wetlands in the Caribbean. The Zapata Swamp is a piece of land in Montemar National Park that is home to the world's smallest bird, the Bee Hummingbird and more than 200 species of birds, 16 reptile species and many other introduced and native animals. This area is an important area for migratory birds and the largest area in the Cuba. The area was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 200 and is an important natural reserve for the entire world to see. Take your camera and binoculars as you will have great opportunities for seeing and photographing the flora and fauna.

Centro Todo en uno

A fun place for the kids and the whole family is the Centro Todo en uno that is an amusement park with fun rides and a shopping mall. Many locals come here and for a busy and fun day go on the weekend or for a quieter experience go during the week. Enjoy the roller coaster, Montana Rusa, bumper cars, merry go round, baseball batting, arcade games and a bowling alley. There is a restaurant, snack bars, pizza place as well as a great playground for the kids.

Diving in Varadero

If you love the ocean and are interested in diving different places then Diving in Varadero can be a rewarding experience. The best place near Varadero for good diving is east of the Hicacos peninsula where you can several wrecked ships, some sunk intentionally to form a marine park for underwater fauna such as corals and sponges.

The Bonaci reef is 30 metres deep and here are the remains of a wreck, a German merchant ship sunk in 1943 during WWII. You will see large corals, gorgonians and sponges as well as lots of reef fish and other local marine life. There are 4 diving centres in Varadero and all carry equipment for rent and can take you on diving tours to various locations around the peninsula. Some offer lessons and accreditation for beginners and experienced divers.
