What's the weather like in Varadero in February

February is still a good time to visit Varadero and the temperature will slowly increase from now on to the hottest months in August and September.

Rain

The winter weather is warm and pleasant even at night compared to the European winters and the cold and rain. Rainfall is fairly stable at this time of year and the average rainfall of 20mm that will over just 5 days, is the same as last month. Towards the end of the month rain will lessen towards next month's low of 10mm. Rain is usually confined to short storms that clear to fine sunny days.

Temperature

Average temperature has increased slightly to 23°C that sits between the average high/low temperatures of 18°C and 28°C. Temperatures will rise from now towards the average highs of 31°C seen from June to September.

Humidity

As the rainfall falls towards the end of the month the humidity will fall to a low of 75% that will remain til around June when it will start to increase with higher rainfalls.

Sea Temperature

Sea temperatures have dropped to the lowest level in February and March and the average sea temperature is 24°C. Towards the end of the month the temperature will rise steadily each month to the high of 30°C in August. Swimming is a pleasant activity all year round but during cyclone season it will be dangerous at the beaches and along the coastline with high surf and dangerous conditions.

Varadero Beaches for February

Coral Beach

Coral Beach is a great location in Varadero for snorkelling between November and April. You will see more than 30 species of coral and numerous fish that swim in and out of the small caves in the coral. The beach often has many shells washed up on the sand and there will be people trying to sell you shells and other wares.

Varadero Beach

Sunbathing and relaxing on the beach is a great pastime in the warm weather of Varadero and there are many spots along the main Varadero Beach to spend a few quiet hours. You can join a game of beach volleyball, or go looking for shells in the shallow water. Wear beach shoes as the conch shells have spines and these are sharp and can cause a painful cut.

La Voca Rasada

La Voca Rasada is located Varadero serving a selection of international dishes. Favourites here are the charcoal baked pizzas, shrimp cocktail, chicken cordon bleu and fried bananas. A good atmosphere has been created on the rooftop with reasonable prices and a variety of cocktails.

Salsa Suarez Restaurant and Bar

For great Cuban and international dishes from Japan, Italy and Mexico try the Salsa Suarez Restaurant and Bar that have their own garden for herbs and such. House specialties include chicken cooked in honey and orange, Yixi Rolls, fresh seafood pasta and stuffed pork tenderloin. The chef puts on specials and these include Rabbit Risotto, Tuna with green sauce, fillet mignon, sushi tasting plate and chicken stuffed with crab and feta. Choose from the extensive wine list with red, white, sparkling, rose and dessert wines.

La Rampa

For great Cuban food you have to try La Rampa with the lobster a standout favourite. You are able to just ask the chef and he will cook something for you. Pina coladas are a crowd favourite and the chicken is good too. Very reasonably priced with lunch specials on lobsters.

Things to do in Varadero in February

Varadiving

For the scuba diver visit Varadiving and take part in a dive course for the beginner or take a dive tour with a number of dives over 1 to 5 days at different locations such as The Bay of Pigs and Coral Beach. With 2 dives a day you will see a great part of the marine life and reefs in this part of the world.

Varadero Municipal Museum

The Varadero Municipal Museum contains the history of this part of Cuba with many objects, maps and documents as well as personal effects. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. The architecture is typically Cuban with a colourful façade and interior.

Varahicacos Ecological Reserve

For nature lovers the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve is a small park where you will see a selection of flora and fauna including many lizards. Be sure to wear enclosed shoes and you are given a map with a few trails to follow. There are many places to take great photos of the scenery and looking out to see.
