Weather lowdown

With amazing weather all year round, Tulum is a great choice for a holiday away for couples, single travelers, and families, as it appeals to a wide variety of interests. In April, the rainfall is still minimal and the temperatures continue to remain warm and humid in this part of the Riviera Maya. It's a great time to head to the beach and soak up the long days of sunshine, with an average of nearly eight hours of daylight per day.

The average daily temperature is 26°C (about 79°F), so summer clothing is necessary to stay cool during the day when out and about. At night, the lows only drop down to 23°C (around 73°F), so even when you're out on the town, you'll still be plenty warm. Pack the short-sleeved shirts, tank tops, and shorts to stay comfortable when the daytime highs jump up to 29°C (about 84°F). Flip flops or sandals are appropriate for the beach, but you'll also want a sturdy pair of walking shoes if you plan on visiting the ruins.

This month, the rain only falls over the course of three days so you don't have to worry about having an umbrella on hand. More than likely, any rain that falls will be light and short-lived, with around 45 mm falling over the course of the month. The chance of rain on any given day is 20 percent. With an average sea temperatures of 27°C (about 81°F), swimming and water sports should be on your agenda.

The highest recorded temperature for this part of Mexico reached a blistering 38°C (about 100°F). At one time, the thermometer measured a low of 17°C (around 63°F), cool for the area but still pleasant. During your stay in Riviera Maya, you'll more than likely have normal temperatures rather than these extreme highs or lows.
