Summer (May to September) is long, hot and dry. This is the peak season for visitors to the region who can expect very high temperatures, long hours of sunshine and warm, crystal-clear seas. Summer weather begins early, with average daytime temperatures hitting 25°C in May. Temperatures continue to rise, with the mercury hitting 30°C in June before peaking in July and August at 33°C. The heat and sunshine is relentless, and sunscreen is essential for all visitors. Although temperatures can be extremely high, cooling northerly winds known as âmeltemi windsâ often blow in from the Aegean during the summer. These dry winds serve to reduce humidity and can provide welcome relief from the heat.
In the summer nights, average temperatures remain high, peaking at about 21°C in July and August.
Rainfall is extremely low between April and September - as low as 3mm in July. Recent growth in the regionâs population has meant that water shortages have become common during the summer, but the low rainfall means visitors are almost guaranteed to avoid rain showers during the summer. Summer days are long, with Torba experiencing average daily sunshine hours of 13 or 14 hours during June, July and August. Conditions are perfect for lying on the beaches that line the clear waters of Torba Bay. Swimming conditions are ideal, as between June and September the average water temperature reaches a pleasantly warm 24°C. Torba has not experienced the same level of development that has been seen recently in bustling Bodrum, and there are many secluded beaches where visitors can avoid the crowds.
Autumn (October and early-November) remains warm, but gets considerably wetter than the dry summer months. In October daytime temperatures average at a very respectable 24°C and the sea remains relatively warm, so visitors wishing to avoid the peak period will still find plenty of sunshine and pleasant conditions. In November temperatures fall slightly to an average of around 19°C, and rainfall gets considerably higher. Storms occasionally hit the coast in October and November, bringing heavy rain and high winds.
Winter (late-November to February)is mild, but wet. In December and January the dry summer months are counterbalanced by extremely high rainfall. Average rainfall hits 165mm in December and is similarly high in January, and heavy storms are common. Rainfall falls slightly in February, but is still high.
Spring (March and April) is warm, with plenty of sunshine. Winter temperatures give way to milder weather in March, with average highs of 17°C, but March is also quite wet with 78mm of rainfall being common. April is much drier, and is fairly warm, with average highs of 20°C. Visitors can expect long hours of sunshine and infrequent rain, so conditions can be extremely pleasant.
