The Main Holiday Season
The summer is the best time of the year to visit Thassos. Summer begins in May and ends in September with the warmest months being June, July and August. The average temperature during the 5 months of summer is between 21°C and 27°C.
The summer months see an average of 12 to 13 hours of sunshine a day, perfect for hitting the beach. The weather stays warm and pleasant in the evenings. Even the winter months are relatively mild on Thassos with the low temperature being around 8°C - 9°C.
Popular Activities in Thassos
Water sports such as swimming, snorkelling and SCUBA diving are high on the list of things to do in on Thassos.
Away from the beaches, there are the mountains and inland villages to be explored as well as the ancient Greek ruins, including the ancient Agora, Phillipi and the ancient sanctuaries of Athena and Pan. There are paid tours that visitors can take or they can explore on their own.
One of the most interesting sites is the 18th century Monastery of Archangel Michael, located on the side of a cliff, giving visitors a fantastic view out across the Aegean Sea.
Beaches in Thassos
Thassos is surrounded by beaches, most of which have beautiful with white sand. Many of the beaches cater to families and individuals alike and there are plenty of activities on offer.
Chrissi Amoudia, also known as Golden Beach, is one of the best beaches on the island. It has shallow water, perfect for families with children.
Makriamos beach is another family friendly beach, thanks to the shallow water that is ideal for small children that want to paddle.
Alyki Beach is a beautiful beach located in a sheltered bay.
Thassos Nightlife
When it comes to the nightlife, thereâs plenty on offer. There are a number of bars and restaurants that offer live music. Many of the islandâs resorts put on nightly parties. Bouzouki-bars are a common sight throughout Thassos and are the place to be for local entertainment and music.
Accommodation in Thassos
Thassos has plenty of great accommodation that is budget friendly. Accommodation can be more expensice in the peak months, but there are good deals to be found.
The Grand Beach Hotel, in Limenaria is family and budget friendly and has an excellent location- right next to the beach!
The Enavlion Hotel Batagianni on Golden Beach is another of the best places to stay on the island, located minutes away from the beach as well as many cafes, shops and restaurants.
For longer holidays there are the Emerald Apartments, which again are centrally located and popular with tourists.
