Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and sits close to the west coast of Northern Africa. The south of Tenerife has become a popular tourist hot spot as it contains the greatest concentration of hotels and apartments on the island, but you can still find many traditional towns and villages.
Tenerife South has a large selection of restaurants to take your pick from. Whether you want to try some traditional paella or just want to stick to some good old British pub grub, the south of this island definitely has all areas covered!
Spanish
A lot of food you will find in the Canary Islands is influenced by Spanish cuisine. Paella is a typical favourite with locals and tourists which is usually made up of rice mixed with seafood or meat. Tapas is another popular type of meal which is made up of an exquisite variety of appetizers and snacks. These usually consist of olives, cheeses, calamari, tortilla and chorizo sausage. Fish lovers will also adore Tenerife's cuisine, as the south of the island is found right by the Atlantic Ocean. Lobsters, crabs, mussels and oysters are just a small number of fish that can be found in a number of restaurants in the south of Tenerife.
Tasca Tierras del Sur is a renowned restaurant found in Granadilla de Abona which serves a variety of traditional Spanish dishes in an authentic atmosphere. It's highly recommended to try some of the seafood dishes on offer including the prawns with garlic or the seasoned octopus.
Whilst if you want somewhere with live music entertainment try Restaurante Sebastian in Costa Adeje. This stylish and minimalist restaurant serves a variety of Spanish dishes including tapas and freshly caught seafood such as salmon and sea bass. However, if you are staying in Los Cristianos why not try the popular Restaurante Asador 240 which serves an interesting array of dishes including succulent steaks, with stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean.
If you're looking for a lively Spanish tapas bar try Cabana Bambou in Playa De Las Americas. Sit back with a glass of ice cold sangria whilst listening to some of the live music on offer and feast upon some of the affordable appetizers available.
International
If you can't decide what to eat you don't have to worry as there are a number of restaurants in the south of Tenerife which serve delicacies from all over the world.
Carlos can be found underneath the Club Atlantis Hotel in Costa Adeje. This restaurant is renowned in the area and offers a laid back and warm atmosphere. Tuck into a variety of dishes found from around the world. On the other hand you could always try the Harvester in Costa del Silencio and feast upon the famous hickory chicken or some delicious spaghetti carbonara.
Italian
If you're a fan of Italian food you will find no shortage of Italian cuisine in the south of Tenerife.
In Playa de las Americas you will find First Love near Compostela Beach. This family friendly restaurant serves anything from authentic antipasto to delicious tiramisu. Whilst if you're staying in Los Cristianos you must head over to Pizza Y Pasta for some traditional stone oven cooked pizza and pizza calzone. Or if you fancy some ice cream and a strong Italian coffee by the beach then try Via Vai, also found in Los Cristianos. This place can get very busy during the heat of the day and on a humid summers evening!
Asian
The south of Tenerife has a variety of different restaurants serving cuisine for people who like things spicy and hot!
Restaurant 88 is a trendy restaurant found in the fishing village of La Caleta. Enjoy some of the freshest sushi on the island whilst taking in the panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. If you're into oriental décor and tasty seafood then this is the place for you.
On the other hand if you're staying in Playa de las Americas and fancy some Thai food then you must go to Thai Botanico, found in the Safari Centre. Tuck into some Thai fillet steak or try some of the delicious egg fried rice!
British
As the south of Tenerife receives a lot of British tourists every year it has set up a number of delicious restaurants catering for those who want a full English breakfast or some fish and chips.
Oliver's With A Twist in Los Cristianos is an extremely popular restaurant with both locals and tourists. If you have a sweet tooth you must order the dessert platter which consists of over four different types of sweet treats. Whilst if you fancy something more savory order the fish and chips or the meat pie.
If you're looking for somewhere with a great family atmosphere head to Micky O' Malley's in Costa Adeje. Enjoy a traditional Sunday roast or tuck into a full English breakfast, but if you want something a bit healthier try the renowned house salad. Whilst if you're looking for somewhere to have a spot of lunch or afternoon tea try Harriet's Tea Room found near Playa Fanabe. Enjoy a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches and cakes, some of the favourites are the lemon meringue pie and the chocolate brownies!
