What's the Weather like in Tenerife South in December
In December the weather is starting to cool down and get wetter. This is the wettest month in the Canary Islands with rainfall expected between November and March.
Rain
The average rainfall is 35mm with light rain and drizzle falling over 5 to 7 days. Rainfall is never enough here to ruin your holidays with no rainfall falling in summer. Average rainfall will start to fall from the end of the month until the June when no rainfall is expected.
Temperature
December days are warm enough to be outside at the beach or in the mountains but you will need a light jacket or cardigan for the cooler evenings. The average temperature is 20°C between a low of 15°C and an average high of 23°C. Temperatures will drop by the end of the month but only by a degree or so before they start to rise after during February.
Average Sea Temperature
The ocean temperature will be a cooler 21°C down from a summer high of 23°C, so the hardy traveller can still go swimming or you can spend several of the sunshine hours at the beach.
Humidity
The average humidity varies little during the year from a low of 65%,
66% in December to 70% in July and September.
Average Sunshine Hours
The hours of sunshine drop to their lowest in December with just 7 hours of sun to spend outdoors. This is compared to the summer high of 12 hours of sunshine for the area of Tenerife South. The length of sunshine will increase slightly by the end of the month where each month will see an increase towards summer.

There are still lots of beach activities available at the major resorts such as skin diving, kite surfing, wind surfing and jet skis. A great beach for winter water sports is the El Demado located between Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos.
Los Cristianos has a long pedestrian section filled with boutiques, cafes and bars that is often filled with travellers enjoying the fine warm weather in December. The beach includes showers to wash the sand and salt off as well as sun beds for ultimate sunbathing.
Playa del Duque on the Costa Adeje is stretch of golden sand surrounded by high class boutiques and spas ideal for a pampering on those cooler December days. Enjoy a massage before sunbathing on a comfy sun lounge, or visit one of the bars or cafes for a light meal and a drink while the world goes by outside. The large commercial centre has on street and underground parking if you have hired a car to tour around.
Bars and Restaurants
Some of the smaller local bars and cafes will be closed for the winter months including December but all of the resorts have places for the family to eat. The Playa de las Americas has many food places with different cuisines from around the world including Italian, Greek and local Canary Islands cuisine.

Things to do in Tenerife South in December
For the avid golfer there are several resorts offering golf courses to choose from such as Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf with distinctive black volcanic sand bunkers. This 18 hole par 72 course has a 9 hole course for pitching and putting practice. One of the holes doesn't have a fairway; instead you cross the ocean to the green. Other facilities here are a swimming pool, tennis court, golf school and shop and a bar and restaurant.
Cycling in Tenerife
For the active outdoors holiday maker try one of the local bike riding tours or mountain bike courses. Cycling Tenerife has tours to suit all the family as well as one on one tour for the enthusiast. Try the Mount Tiede Challenge that covers 100km with 60km uphill and can take up to and over 7 hours depending on your fitness level. Cycle hire is available at several places on the south Tenerife coast including at San Miguel de Abona.

Walking in Tenerife
There are many walking areas to enjoy the warm winter weather such as a hike up the volcanic Mount Tiede, the highest peak in all of Spain. The National Park has a cable car ride to the peak where you can revel in the amazing and wondrous volcanic landscape.
