What's the Weather like in Tenerife South in February
Temperature
A trip to Tenerife South in February is the perfect way to escape the cold, wet winters in northern Europe, as temperatures here remain pleasant all year round.
Daytime temperatures in February reach a high of 21°C (70°F) and only fall to around 14°C (57°F) in the evenings, so you'll find that on sunny days you'll be able to relax on the many beautiful beaches of Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje.
February has slightly warmer days on average than December and January the colder winter months. The average high temperature is warming up to a mild 22°C with night time lows dropping to an average of 15°C. Be ready for some rain in the wettest months from November to March but at only 5 or 6 wet days a month and just a 16% chance of a drizzle or a light shower.
The weather is becoming warmer as the month progresses and this makes Tenerife South an ideal location to spend a few weeks during Europe's coldest months. The days are warm enough to wander along the beaches and the night time lows are increasing and lessening the difference between the average highs and lows. Humity levels are a a steady 49% (comfortable) to 80% (humid) on average this month.
Rain
Average rainfall on those 5 or 6 days is as little as 5mm so even if it is wet it won't last all day and is more a nuisance rather than a downpour. December has the highest average rainfall with 35mm and it still is only wet on those few days.
Average Sunshine Hours
Ocean temperatures are still at a low of 19°C compared with the summer highs of a pleasant 23 to 24°C and with at least 9 hours of sunshine each day in February there is still plenty of time to explore the area around Tenerife South. In summer you can expect to see 12 hours of sunshine, higher average temperatures and no rain.
The average temperature of the ocean is 20°C that compares to the high in the summer months of 23°C. The sunshine hours have increased from January and averages out at 9 after the winter low of 7 hours in December. Summer sunshine from June to August lasts for 12 hours when you can spend half the day outdoors.
Wind
The chance of snow is highly unlikely, while wind speeds bring a light to fresh breeze, with strong winds a rarity.
Tenerife South Hotels in February
The Hotel RF Astoria is in Puerto de la Cruz and was built in 2001 and is a modern motel with 33 elegantly appointed rooms. The Astoria is just minutes from the beach and offers car rental, a buffet restaurant, 24 hour reception and a lift to all floors. Children and families are welcome here.
Recently renovated with 92 rooms is the Hotel Monopol full of character and old world charm. The rooms have traditional carved wooden balconies, all modern amenities, heated swimming pool with whirlpool and sauna. The grounds are fully landscaped with beautiful tropical palms and creepers.
Royal Park Albatros is right on the beach just 100metres form the sand and the ocean. With over 150 self-catering apartments this is an ideal place for the keen golfer with a whopping 27 golf courses. The apartments are built around a magnificent swimming pool complete with waterfalls and tropical gardens. Apartments sleep up to 4 adults with a double bed and a sofa bed. Relax in the large living area and cook in the fully equipped kitchen.
The reception area is open 24hours a day to answer any queries and for booking of any excursions and tours. Relax with a book in the tranquil reading garden or have a game of giant chess. The heated swimming pool has a shallow children's' area and plenty of sun lounges. Eat at the poolside Restaurant or Lobby Bar with the restaurant open for breakfast from 8:30am and closing with dinner and entertainment at 1am. The Lobby Bar offers light snacks and soft drinks and evening cocktails by the pool.
There is still a chance of rain at this time of year, and as the evenings can be much cooler, it would be a good idea to bring extra layers of clothing and a light jacket.
Though you may not be able to go swimming, you can still enjoy boat tours along the gorgeous coastline and for better views of the surrounding scenery and across the ocean, you can head into the hills at the base of Mount Teide.
February is also Carnival time in Tenerife, so in the main towns you're likely to encounter lively parades with live music and dancing. You can join in the fun by heading to the many bars in Costa Adeje and revelling in the atmosphere.

Tenerife South Beach for February
Playa de la arena is a lovely black sandy beach looking across to La Gomera to the west and you can experience a stunning sunset as the weather warms up. Located in Playa de la Arena resort area on the west coast and near Los Gigantes this is a blue flag beach set in a pretty cove.
Play San Juan is a pebbled and sandy beach on the south west coast that is quieter than the more popular nearby beaches of Playa de las Americas.
Bars and Restaurants
The beach promenades offers cafes, bars and restaurants with many different cuisines to suit all the family's taste. From modern Canarian fare to other traditional cuisines such as Italian and Greek, food from all over the world is on offer here in Tenerife South.
Playa de las Americashas many restaurants and bars to choose from including Thai Botanico offering you great Thai cuisine, Christy's Bar for British fare and Imperial Tai Pan for the sushi lover. For great pizza try the La Grotta Azzura Pizzeria or the Restaurant Pizzaria Pasta and Vino. If you are after a great cuppa and cake try Cozy Café. Linekers Tenerife is worth a visit with a great cocktail selection and visiting DJ's plus an outdoor area that is great for making the most of the increasingly warmer February weather.
Things to do in Tenerife South in February
With the weather still mild but possibly to cool for swimming, there are still many outdoor activities for the family to enjoy. A visit to the famous Sitio Litre Orchid Gardens to see the gardens and the building that was originally a convent and constructed in 1730 makes a great day out. The gardens are the oldest in Tenerife South and include a croquet lawn, fountains and water garden.
Tenerife has one of the world's first bioclimatic villages that were built to take advantage of renewable energy. The information centre is open every day and a guide can show you around the village. Many of the houses look like they belong in a sci-fi movie but all take advantage of natural heating and cooling.
If you are interested in the stars and the solar system visit the Observatorio del Tiede where the visitor centre is set up in a dome to explain all about the telescopes and the science of astronomy.
