What's the weather like in Tenerife in April?
Spring really begins to be felt as the calendar ticks over from March into April. Temperatures on both land and sea are beginning a slow climb as the months tick by and this time of the year can be a lovely time to visit Tenerife North.
Rain
This month also begins to usher in the drier part of the year for the northern half of the island. Rainfall in the previous month was at least 10mm more. However, April has an average monthly rainfall of only 20mm spread over an average of 5 days. This means you are unlikely to be affected by any rainfall on your trip.
Sunshine Hours
Sunlight during the month will also continue to increase to an average of 10 hours of sun each day. Keep in mind that even when it is cloudy, thenorthern half of the island is likely to see at least some sun throughout the daytime hours.
Temperature
Temperatures in this month are nearly identical to the previous month with average afternoon highs near 22°C (72°F). Combined with the sunshine, afternoons will be very pleasant during this time of the year. Average overnight lows will fall to 16°C (61°F). Overall, the average temperature throughout the day is a pleasant 19°C (66°F), perfect for getting out and about.
Sea Temperature
Sea temperatures are still on the chilly side during this time of the year. One reason for the chilly conditions is the Canary Current that flows from the north to the south in the vicinity of the island. This current brings with it colder water resulting in cooler sea conditions until well into the summer months. During this time of year, the average sea temperature is still 16°C (61° F). For many, this can be too cold to swim in, but it will be increasing by May and June.
When deciding whether to stay in mainland Spain or in the Canary Islands, be sure to do plenty of research beforehand as conditions may still be cool in continental Europe during this time of the year.
