What's the Weather Like in Stockholm in September

As the first green capital of EuropeStockholm is one of the cleanest cities in the world. Its extensive public transportation system makes the city and its surroundings particularly accessible.

Sunshine

In September, even though the days clearly begin to shorten, the sun still shines for about 7 hours every day. This is a two-hour drop since the previous month, but still also two hours more than October. The rapid shortening of the day is responsible for this decrease in sunshine hours. 1st September has 14.04 daylight hours; 30th September has 11.31 hours of daylight, which means that each September day is 5.1 minutes shorter than the day before.

Temperature

The daytime temperatures reach up to 15°C on average and the nights drop to a cooler 9°C. Such conditions still present plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoor attractions and events of Stockholm. Moreover, the summer crowds have returned home in September and the city is much calmer and more enjoyable at this time of year. Crisp mornings are invigorating; pleasantly comfortable afternoons allow for some serious urban exploration. The overall average temperature in September is 12°C.

Sea Temperature

Swimming probably isn't possible anymore this month, except maybe early onhe sea water averages 14°C.

Rain

Stockholm receives 55mm of rainfall in September, an amount that is spread out over 15 days with rainfall. Even though only July and August are wetter months, this really isn't an extraordinarily wet month. The number of daily sunshine hours clearly proves this. There is a 52% chance of rainfall on any given day this month and there are two main rainfall types. Moderate rain falls on 50% of the days with rainfall, while light rain is recorded on 33% of those days. Thunderstorms are rare, happening on 9% of the rainy days.
