August is the beginning of the rainy season in St. Thomas, although this wetter time of year does not make the island unfavourable for tourism. In August, there are all the same activities of the previous summer months.
There are 4 golf
courses on the island, suitable for players of each level.
One in particular, Mahogany Run, is the best known of the four courses on the island (and the most feared by some). It has been described as "the 18 most challenging holes in the Caribbean." However, the breathtaking views that the course provides will more than make up for the course's difficulty level.
Continuing in the summer's series of fishing tournaments, August is the time of year for the annual United States Virgin Islands/Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament, which draws competitors looking for a catch to add to the long list of world-records that the waters of St. Thomas have posted in recent years.
Scuba diving, snorkelling, and jet skiing are still quite popular during this month. However, if some visitors simply want to unwind then there are plenty of sunlit hours for relaxing and the island offers several spas with massage services.
Touring the island by air, land, and sea will also provide entertainment and much information about the area.
