The month of May is a superb time to take a holiday on St. Martin, the beautiful Caribbean island that boasts the clearest, bluest water and cleanest beaches in the Caribbean.

For partying and nightlife, visit the Dutch side of the island and for relaxing, shopping and soaking up the sun, visit the French side of the island.

The temperatures pretty much stay the same year round on St. Martin and visitors can expect an average daily high temperature of about 29°C (84°F). Visitors are advised to enjoy the sun but to take periodic breaks and drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration which can happen quickly in the heat.

The nightly low temperature average for May is around 23°C (74°F). This is the perfect weather for taking walks around the town and on the beaches in the evenings.

May is on average the third wettest month of the year with approximately 102mm or 4 inches of rain accumulating throughout the month. Visitors can expect to enjoy about 10 hours of sunshine per day in May.

Of the many things to do on St. Martin is take a snorkelling cruise around the island. There are an abundance of different tour groups and guides to choose from but one of the best is Captain Alan's Three Island Snorkelling Adventure. Captain Alan's provides visitors with many options to choose from not just snorkelling. The specialty is their 6 hour tour which leaves at 9:45 AM and returns at 3:45 PM and encompasses several different snorkelling dives, wake boarding and tubing as well as lunch on Tintamarre. They offer special group rates and the tours can be either public (mingling with other guests) or private. Tours include all snorkelling equipment, open bar and lunch.

The Summit Hotel on Cupecoy Bay (the Dutch side of the island) is a budget traveller's paradise. It's located a mere 10 minutes from the airport so guests just arriving on the island will be able to make their way to the hotel quickly and easily. The rooms are comfy and spacious and include a kitchenette for cooking and making tea and coffee. The restaurant and bar on site offer a wide variety of foods and beverages, so much that some visitors don't bother to eat elsewhere.

However, there are other restaurants within walking distance. There is also free breakfast, free parking and free Wi-Fi internet provided. The swimming pool is available to guests only. Overall, an excellent value for the money in a quiet, scenic location.
