April is the first month of the year in St Julians when it starts to feel a lot drier. And it's likely that you won't see more than a drop or two of rain, during your entire visit.

After the last of the typically wet weather is seen in the early part of March, April usually only experiences 30mm of rain throughout the entire month. With most of the moisture falling late at night.

As the weather dries up, the temperature starts to climb in earnest. Though April is still far off the hottest temperatures reached in July and August, average highs of 19°C provide plenty of beautiful sunshine almost every day.

Thanks to the wetter winter, the ground is still very luscious during spring in St Julians offering the ideal destination for those that want to get out and enjoy the countryside. And as this time of the year is still considered off peak, there are plenty of bargains to be had in the local hotels and B&B's.

Exceptional sea temperatures averaging 29°C ensure the beaches become very popular at this time of the year. Especially with those that want to avoid the peak temperatures and peak crowds that the high season will attract.

And with an average of 9 hours of daily sunshine enjoyed throughout the month, this is a wonderful time to enjoy long, sunny days that are still very comfortable.

Average temperatures of 16°C in April also show an improvement in night time temperatures. Average lows at this time of the year climb up to 12°C, which is higher than the overall average temperature for London at the same time of year.

April in St Julian is warm, dry and luscious. And it is the perfect antidote to the miserable weather forecast that is usual for this time of year back home.

Where to Stay

Enjoy a stay at Corinthia Hotel St. Georges Bay for a wonderful way to experience quality accommodation in St Julians. This large five star hotel offers six different restaurants within its grounds, a spa, a gym and a full sized swimming pool as just part of its attraction. Though the hotel feels quite secluded on arrival, all local amenities are only a five minute walk away. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. But for the best location, opt for a room with a sea view.  And with staff on hand driven to make your stay memorable, you will want to come back to the Corinthia every time you visit Malta.

The Allegro Hotel is a small, comfortable hotel in the heart of St Julian that has more of a feeling of an inn rather than a commercial residence. The welcome from the staff is genuinely friendly and the service is truly excellent - especially considering the discounted prices that are available during April. The rooms are basic, but very clean. And the hotel is located directly on the main bus route ensuring any part of Malta is not too far away. Enjoy the five minute walk to the local bars, restaurants and clubs or take a step just outside the hotel to experience the beauty of the beach at St George's Bay. For families, couples or single travellers the Allegro Hotel is a great place to stay.

For good, clean accommodation at rock bottom prices, the PV Hostel has it all. This is a fantastic place to stay if your main focus of a trip to St Julians is to get out and enjoy the nightlife on a budget. And in the low season of April, expect some really exceptional bargains. Dorm rooms offer even greater value for money, and make it a very convenient place to stay for large parties that want to be close to the action. It's easy to reach by bus from the airport. And with shops and supermarkets just a short walk away, this is an easy way to have a very good time in St Julians.

Things to Do

One of the best things about Malta is the fact that everything is so close at hand. And with a full day tour around the island, you can see almost everything there is to see in one well planned trip. Choose to take in the historical sights of the island or opt for a night time excursion to experience a different side of this beautiful land. St Paul's Catacombs and the inspirational sights of Valetta are just some of the delights you can enjoy during your day.

As the sea is warm all year in St Julians, there's no bad time to enjoy the water. Beaches may be at a premium, but there are plenty of pontoons and landing areas to provide access to everything from the historical sites to the beautiful little harbours. Hire a speedboat from Pembroke Water Sports and you can take yourself all around the island, stopping off as many times as you like. The boats can be used for fishing, for sight-seeing or even for a spot of sunbathing. With a full briefing before you depart, it's a fabulous way to catch some rays.

Restaurants and Nightlife

The Bedouin Bar is part of the Westin Dragonara Resort in the harbour of St Julians and is a great place to chill out. The Bedouin style décor provides sofas, pillows and a canopied bar area to ensure the ultimate in eastern hospitality. All with incredible views over the open sea. As the night progresses and the music kicks in, the Bedouin bar becomes an open air nightclub just perfect for the warmer April nights in St Julian. Keep cool with the wealth of cocktails and spirits on offer and enjoy a more relaxed side to Maltese nightlife.

Malta is famous for its high quality Casinos, and Casino Malta is definitely one of the most popular. Operated by Olympic Casino, the establishment is spacious, airy and manned by very friendly staff. There are 18 live table games including Blackjack, American Roulette and Poker on offer. But unlike other casinos in the area, live music is also very popular here. Situated within Eden Place in the heart of St. George's Bay, just make sure you put on your best get up before you set off. This high end casino has a very strict dress code for all those that want to play.

AXM Malta is one of the only gay bars in Malta and is situated right in the heart of St Julians in Paceville. AXM offers great music, excellent visuals, good value drinks and the atmosphere is totally inclusive. It's a huge draw for both locals and visitors alike, no matter what your gender or orientation. Enter before 11pm and entrance is usually free. But even if you have to buy a ticket later in the night, it still comes with a good quality drink. Open from Wednesday to Sunday every week of the year, AXM is a welcome addition to the gay scene in St Julians.
