St Ives in December 👥
St. Ives in December is one long continuous festival in the town when December arrives. Some of the most prominent events to look out for are the Christmas Open Exhibition, showcasing visual arts from December 2nd to early January by the St Ives Society of Artists at Norway Square. The following events are from early to mid-December only. One of the best jazz clubs in the UK plays at the Western Hotel, Royal Square, Tuesday nights only. A Craft and General Market at St Ives Guildhall happens on Wednesdays. A Life Drawing Art Class at St Ives School of Painting, Porthmeor Studios; conducts until 20th December. By 6pm, Santa Claus can be seen arriving into St Ives on an RNLI lifeboat at the harbour. A flare shoots up into the night sky announcing he is near. Once he finally arrives, Santa Claus will turn the lights on at the harbour. Later, a parade will take him around the town where he will switch on one of the main big trees by 7pm.Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 👥
Hotels offer sumptuous menus on Christmas Day - from a full English breakfast to a five-course lunch to a deluxe dinner. If you prefer the outdoors, any one of St. Ives' stunning beaches - the Porthmeor, Porthminster, the Harbour, and Porthgwidden - will be great for a visit. Or soak in the many art galleries for which St. Ives is famous for. The New Millenium Gallery in Street an Pol is the biggest. Boat trips are also at the top of the list for Christmas. A Christmas Day Service will be held at the Fore Street Methodist Church on Fore Street from 10am to 11am.Public Hoilday
New Year's Eve 🗓
New Year's Eve in St. Ives has gained a national reputation. The streets are closed to traffic, beginning at the foot of Tragenna Hill, therefore the road is closed off to the harbour front, so no cars will be able to pass. Musical entertainment and food and drinks are available everywhere. The lights and fireworks can be seen from Smeaton's Pier.
