Summer is in full swing in June, with warm sea temperatures making it an ideal time for splashing in the waves and sunbathing on the beach. You can also try your hand at watersports like skiing, surfing, and kayaking. The waters around Sotogrande get up to a nice 20°C (around 68°F) and are a refreshing break from the hot summer air this part of the Andalucia region sees. The tourists start coming in full force this month to enjoy the fantastic weather.

The average daily temperature jumps up nearly 3 degrees from May, up to 22°C (about 71°F). The lows drop down to 17°C (around 63°F), still super nice for a nighttime stroll along the beach or getting out on the town. Expect high temperatures to reach all the way up to 26°C (about 79°F), but with the nice sea breezes that blow across from northern Africa, it stays pleasant with low humidity. The chance of having a windy day is 80%, so be prepared for some breezy days.

Your suitcase should contain warm-weather clothes like shorts, short-sleeved shirts, and sandals for the beach. Bring along good walking shoes for exploring the resort and the surrounding towns and countryside. You'll want sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen too, as the area sees nearly 11 hours of sunshine each day. You don't want to get a holiday-ruining sunburn!

Don't worry about bringing along an umbrella, as the area sees only 16 mm of rainfall this month. That amount falls over 4 days in the month, so when it does rain, it's short-lived. Severe storms are possible but generally you'll be guaranteed amazing weather during your holiday. Extreme temperature swings are also rare. The highest recorded temperature was a very hot 35°C (about 95°F), while the lowest recorded temperature went down to a cold 14°C (around 57°F).

Where to Stay

When you stay at the NH Sotogrande, you'll be treated to easy access to some of Sotogrande's best golf courses while staying in amazing accommodations. The 106 rooms of the hotel come in four configurationstandard, Superior, Junior Suite, and Suiteo fit the needs of couples, singles, and families traveling together. All the rooms come with mini bar and air conditioning, and some have private terraces with garden views.

Located next to the Sotogrande Marina, with convenient access to numerous restaurants, bars, and entertainment options, Club Maritimo de Sotogrande is a great place to call home during your holiday. The hotel has 31 rooms, eight suites, and two penthouse suites with views of the marina and the Mediterranean Sea. Hotel amenities include an on-site restaurant, Aveda Beauty Centre, and lobby lounge with game tables and televisions.

Set in the midst of a gorgeous golf course, Hotel Almenara provides guests with first-class accommodations and amenities. All of the rooms have terra cotta floors and warm wood beams, creating a tranquil environment for your holiday away in June. Several room configurations are available, including Friends and Family suites for larger groups. Along with golf, you can enjoy the Equestrian Centre, Racquet Club, beach, swimming pool, and spa.

Things to Do

Take advantage of the warming sea temperatures in June and try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding with Spot Segway. The SUPs are made for beginners to advanced surfers and rentals are available for the entire day. The company provides basic instructions if you are a newbie or just want to brush up on your skills. If you want to try surfing, Spot Segway also rents surfboards to catch some waves.

It played host to the 1997 Ryder Cup and now invites golfers of all skills levels to golf its beautiful holes. Valderrama Golf Club is a Robert Trent course, with lush greens, gorgeous mossy trees, and plenty of challenging bunkers, sand traps, and fairways. After your round of golf, head over to the well-stocked pro shop, comfortable lounge and bar, and high-end restaurant.

Hop on a friendly horse and tour the countryside with Endurance Equestrian Experience. The stables are located just outside of Sotogrande. Numerous types of tours are available for all ages and experience levels. You can explore the Finca Alcaidesa estate, wander the foothills to watch the sunrise or sunset, or head down to the beach. If none of those appeal to you, Endurance Equestrian will create a special tour just for you.

Hit the Beach

Stretching for 5 km between Sotogrande and Alcaidesa, Playa Guadalquiton is private and quiet. It has no facilities or amenities but is a beautiful place to grab some relaxation on the warm sand under the cork oak trees. With the sea temperatures up to 20°C (around 68°F), it's a great time for swimming and splashing in the waves. This beach has no direct vehicle access, but you can access the beach on foot from Playa Torrecarboneria and Playa Sotogrande.

Eating and Drinking Out

Overlooking the Sotogrande port and marina, Restaurante Midas has large windows so you can enjoy the views as you dine for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The restaurant has a huge breakfast menu with traditional English, Spanish, Mexican, Nordic, and American breakfasts.

With a magical outdoor patio under the shade of a large tree, Lombardo's offers a huge menu of wines to sip on while you dine under the stars. The wine is the perfect partner to the Italian pasta and seafood dishes with favourites like courgette, fettuccine with prawns and zucchini, and flatbread pizza. It's also known as the place in Sotogrande to purchase Spanish and Italian wines, with both a physical and online store.

At La Quinta, you can dine on Argentinian food as you enjoy the views of the horses and green polo fields of Sotogrande. The restaurant takes care to import its meat directly from Argentina so that you get the best steaks, pork, veal, and sirloin. The chefs also make everything from scratch, putting love and care into each dish. On the weekends, come out for the live music and tango dancing.
