What's the Weather Like in Sorrento in July

July along with August is the hottest month of the year in Sorrento, a village on the spectacular Amalfi coast in southern Italy.

Temperature

The average temperature reaches a warm 24°C, which is the absolute maximum of the year. August is equally as warm, while the third and fourth warmest months, June and September, have an average temperature of 21°C, significantly less. The nighttime low and daytime high temperatures are also at their annual peaks. At night, the mercury averages a warm 18°C, while during the day, it rises to a hot 29°C.

High temperatures in the low 30s aren't unusual this time of year. Both temperatures even increase slightly in the course of the month. The hottest time of the year is the end of July and the beginning of August.

Rainfall

July is not only one of the two warmest months in the year; it is also the driest. The total amount of rainfall is no more than 25mm and there are merely 4 days with rainfall, both numbers the absolute lowest in the whole year. The probability that rainfall occurs decreases slightly throughout the month. July 1 is the wettest day of the month with a 21% chance, while July 21 is the driest day of the month and of the whole year with a 17% chance of rainfall.

By far the most common type of rainfall in summer is thunderstorms. They occur on 52% of the days with rainfall. Moderate rain, light rain and drizzle happen as well, but are far less likely. They are observed respectively on 28%, 12% and 7% of the rainy days.

Sea Temperature

The sea temperature is amazingly warm and averages 26°C, just one degree fewer than its annual high in August.

Clouds

It is no coincidence that the driest month of the year is also the clearest. Cloud cover decreases slightly throughout the month as well, from 26% to 20%, with July 24 as the clearest day of the month and of the entire year.

Sunshine Hours

This low percentage of cloud cover allows for plenty of sunshine to hit the beaches of Sorrento. There are 13 beautiful hours of sunshine per day in July, which is the annual maximum that is also recorded in June and August.

Daylight Hours

July, after June, is the second longest month of the year in terms of daylight. There is plenty! However, the length of the days decreases gradually in the course of the month. July 1 is the longest day with 15.02 daylight hours; July 31 is the shortest with 14.21 hours of daylight.
