At just 7.5 miles long and 3.5 miles wide, Greece's Skiathos island holds its own among the larger resort destinations in the country, and manages to bring huge numbers of tourists to its shores each and every year.

Weather-wise, August in one of the best times of the year to visit Skiathos. Temperatures are warm and toasty, ranging from 22.5 degrees to 32.5 degrees celsius, and rainfall is a low 4.5mm on average. High sea temperatures mean August is considered one of the best months for hitting the beach.

Stay at the Hotel Lalaria for just £36 per night. Comprising of 30 two to four bedroomed sea view apartments, each with private verandah, this complex offers a swimming pool, bar, garden and breakfast room. Internet connection is provided for guests who wish to keep in touch with friends and family back home, and the hotel staff can arrange watersports for visitors on the nearby beaches.

Most of Skiathos' best beaches are situated on the south coast, but head north and visitors will find a secret gem. Lalaria Beach is only accessible by boat, and it's incredibly popular with photographers due to the large rocks emerging from the water through which boats can pass underneath, so be sure to take a camera! Unlike the beaches to the south of the island, Lalaria is a pebble beach rather than sand, but the crystal clear waters mean the swimming here is unrivalled.

Considering themselves the most enjoyable and relaxing place in Skiathos Town, The Final Step restaurant has large windows overlooking the sea and serves up a wide selection of foods, ranging from Indian-style prawns and mango salsa, Chinese-style chicken and Thai-style octopus.
