Things to do in Santorini in March 

Skaros Rock

If the weather is a bit overcast, take advantage of the cool temperatures and hike up to Skaros Rock. Although there isn't anything to do when you reach the top of the rock except admire the incredible panoramic sea views the surroundings alone are reason enough to do the hike. In March, the wildflowers will be starting to bloom and the refreshing sea breeze will cool you down if you get a bit hot. The walk only takes around one hour in total, but if you're feeling energetic, you can extend it by another hour or so and hike to the monastery at the water's edge below.

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera is a great place to expand your understanding of the history of Santorini. Despite the museum's small size, it's packed full of things to see, including a large number of authentic paintings, frescoes, sculptures, jewelry, pottery, plant fossils, figurines and metal artifacts. Everything on display was discovered during various excavations which took place in Akrotiri, Potamos and several other sites throughout Santorini. You can choose to wander around the museum yourself or sign up for one of the tours if you'd prefer to be led by a guide.

La Ponta

La Ponta is another top attraction when it comes to learning about the history of the island. This 13th century tower forms part of a Venetian castle and is located in Akrotiri, just above the popular archaeological site. Here you can discover a music exhibition dedicated to the 'tsabouna' a Greek windpipe instrument similar to a set of bagpipes.

In addition to the exhibition, La Ponta also offers visitors the chance to take part in a workshop in which you'll have the chance to make various traditional Greek instruments. If you're looking for a unique souvenir of your visit, stop by the gift shop on the way out and buy one of the various instruments on sale.

Santorini Volcano

If you only have time to see one natural attraction during your holiday in Santorini, make sure it's the Santorini Volcano.
