Playa del Sol
Playa del Sol is a 3km beach in Viña del Mar and is the main stretch of sand in front of the city. Playa del Sol is geared more towards the fun party types and gets quite crowded on the weekends. It's a lot like Miami in this sense, and has outdoor gyms, bike paths, and large grassy areas with landscaping. There is a long boardwalk with cafes, bars, and a number of international restaurants. Despite all the crowds it's still a very clean beach. This beach does have lifeguards but is also known for its dangerous riptides, so use caution.

Catae
Catae Restaurant is located in Las Condes at the Renaissance Santiago Hotel. This award-winning restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere made up of colorful décor, wooden floors & trim, and contemporary tables. Catae serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner made up of fresh Chilean ingredients. Breakfasts include eggs benedict and waffles; lunch and dinners include salmon, grilled octopus, and steak with roasted vegetables. Salads, desserts, and a number of vegetarian options are also available. Catae features an expansive wine menu to go with your dinner. El Rey del Mariscal
Santiago's Central Market is home to some amazing produce, fresh cuts of beef, seafood, and dining options. El Rey del Mariscal is by far the best seafood restaurant in the market and is also a great place to take kids. Most other restaurants in the market are priced high but El Rey del Mariscal is priced fairly for what you get. Everything on the menu is freshly caught and delivered from the fisherman of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. They serve giant king crab, plates of oysters, Parmesan scallops, and the Chilean version of fish & chips. The cold draft beers are plentiful, as is the wine. The staff are attentive and the ambience is very charming.
Things to do in Santiago in November
El Yeso Reservoir
Santiago gets much of its drinking water from El Yeso Reservoir, which doubles as a very popular year-round recreation area. Visiting in spring will be perfect; snowmelt contributes to the bright turquoise water and the mountains above it are still capped in snow. The reservoir is located in the Maipo Valley southeast of Santiago. Activities at Yeso Reservoir include camping, fishing, kitesurfing, bird watching, and hiking. The reservoir is also a great place for stargazing due to its remote location. You will need to rent a car to get here; be careful approaching the lake as the road can be dangerous at times.
Cerro Santa Lucia
One of Santiago's more pleasurable parks, and a must-see for all visitors, is Cerro Santa Lucia. This hill is dwarfed by the nearby Cerro San Cristobal but is just as beautiful. Peaceful trails make their way to the top of the hill where you can enjoy outstanding views of Santiago. The hilltop is often the site of many events during warmer months, such as concerts and other shows. Nearby you'll find Castle Hidalgo, an early-19th century Spanish fortress that sits there to remind you of Santiago's military past. It now serves as an events center and is open to the public. A number of other monuments, gardens, and fountains are spread throughout the park. One of the most elaborate fountains is the Neptune fountain, a large statue and terrace built into the side of the hill.
Santiago Churches
Santiago's long, Catholic heritage means it's full of beautiful, historic churches. You're never far from one no matter where you are, and most of the older churches and cathedrals are located in central Santiago. The most prominent is the Metropolitan Cathedral at Plaza de Armas. This is Santiago's main cathedral and is the seat of the archdiocese. There's also Iglesia de San Francisco. This gorgeous church is not only the oldest church in Santiago but also the oldest building in Santiago. It was built in 1613 and has been crippled by many earthquakes throughout the centuries but still stands. Then there's Iglesia de Santo Domingo, an 18th century church with ornate neoclassical designs of the Dominican order. This list just barely touches all of the unique churches found in this historic city.
Former National Congress Building
The former National Congress building is a popular stop for tourists walking near Plaza de Armas. This landmark neoclassical building was the home of the Chilean National Congress until the military coup in 1973, when it was moved to Valparaiso. The building still houses government offices today and tourists are prohibited from entering. With that said, there is still much to see here. The building itself is an architectural marvel, and it is bordered on one side by gorgeous manicured gardens. The gardens are now on the site of a tragic 1863 church fire and are the most admired feature of this building.
