Spring is in full gear in April in Sani, with much longer days and temperatures continuing to jump up as the month goes on. This part of Greece in southeastern Europe gets a full day's worth of sunshine on average, about eight hours of daylight per day. The chance of having a sunny day is 25 percent and the chance of clouds is 30 percent. You'll want to bring along the sunglasses and a hat as you enjoy the plentiful sunshine the area gets.

The daily average temperature this time of the year is 14°C (around 57°F), great weather for getting outside and seeing the beautiful countryside and coastline. At night, the lows drop down to 9°C (about 48°F), so if you'll be outside in the evening hours or early morning, you'll want a jacket or coat. During the warmest part of the day, the highs get up to 19°C (about 66°F), matching the average temperature. Be sure to pack plenty of layers that you can add and take off as the temperatures vary throughout the day.

As for rain, this month sees about 35 mm of rainfall over the entire month. That amount falls over 10 days, so you have a higher chance of having a rainy day during your visit. But, the rain that does fall is generally light and doesn't last long. The chance of rain on any given day is 37 percent so if you forget the umbrella, you'll most likely be fine. Check the local forecast to know for sure what to expect. The etesian winds blow across the peninsula, moderating the heat.

With an average sea temperature of 14°C (about 57°F), the water is still too chilly for much swimming unless you're kitted out in a wet or dry suit. Thanks to the warming daytime temperatures, however, you can at least spend some time down on the beach, walking through the warm sand and soaking in the sun.

Where to Stay

Once a private villa, the Sanorama Suites sit high above the resort area of Sani. The resort is made up of seven different suites, ranging from the one-bedroom standard suite to the three-bedroom penthouse suite. Guests have access to a sparkling swimming pool with separate hot tub and waterfall to enjoy the warm April air. The pool lounge and bar serves up yummy cocktails and snacks and has satellite television.

Stay in the lap of luxury at the Pomegranate Wellness Spa and Hotel, located just south of Sani and right on the coast of the Aegean Sea. You can choose from a garden view room or a sea view room, all of which come with high-end bedding, opulent bathrooms, and Nespresso coffee and tea maker. If you want to splurge, opt for one of the Luxury or Prestige Suites. You can also treat yourself to an afternoon at the Afrodita Spa or just sit out by the pool all day.

Found on the other side of the peninsula, in the village of Afitos, the Mylos Apartments offer affordable and comfortable accommodations. The rooms are cosy with several bed configurations and also come with writing desks and private bathrooms. Some of the rooms also have private balconies that look out over the village and Algean Sea. When you stay here, you're only a short walk from the restaurants and cafes of the town.

Things to Do

Found in the village of Nea Fokea, Saint Paul's Church is actually part of a cave. The outside looks like a traditional church with white stone and a small steeple. Once you go inside, however, you'll be transported to another time with the narrow hallway that leads deep into the earth and the prayer chapel. The pathway is so narrow that most people will have to crawl, so this is not an activity for those with claustrophobia.

Kids will love spending a warm April afternoon at Fun n Golf, a mini golf course near the village of Hanioti. Great for kids of all ages, the center has a good combination of easy and difficult holes. The kids can also play in a ball pit and playground. The adults will appreciate the full bar with a selection of drinks and you can even get snacks and light meals to fill your belly between holes.

Eating and Drinking Out

Stop into the Sea You Bar for a pre- or post-dinner nightcap. Located at the Sani Marina, the bar is a fun nightlife hotspot with a menu full of creative cocktails and drinks. If you're hungry, don't miss the Sea You Bar's menu of small plates, appetisers, entrees, and desserts. Choose a table on the balcony overlooking the water and enjoy amazing views of the Aegean Sea along with your delicious meal.

The Vosporos Grill House serves up Greek and Mediterranean favourites, but also has some of the best steaks in the area. You can get fresh seafood dishes and barbeque items as well. The dining area includes an indoor portion along with an outdoor patio, where you can dine under the palm trees and the stars. The restaurant is located right at the Sani Marina and is a great place to watch the yachts coming in and out.

A popular spot with both locals and tourists, Amvrosia Restaurant is conveniently located in Afitos. You'll get large portions of fantastic Greek food for an affordable price; early bird diners get a 20 percent discount and a free dessert. The restaurant is open for an early lunch all the way through to late night, so you can stop in any time during the day for food and drinks.
