Puerto Rico island in the Caribbean enjoys year round heat thanks to its tropical climate. Its location to the east of the Dominican Republic and to the west of the Virgin Islands means it is a hugely popular getaway for travellers from all over the world.

August in one of the hottest months in Puerto Rico with temperatures between 23 and 31 degrees celsius and is also one of the months that see the highest water temperatures at a toasty 29 degrees. Although this may seem like a perfect time to go, keep in mind that August is in the middle of hurricane season so visitors should check local weather forecasts regularly.

One of the best places to enjoy the warm August water is in the ElYunqueNationalForest. Away from the coast, the temperatures here are likely to be slightly lower, providing some respite from the heat. La Mina Falls are also found here. This waterfall is popular with swimmers and provides visitors with a the chance to soak in one of the island's natural pools.

The VillaSevilla is located in the national forest itself. Guests can stay in chalets and cottages with private gardens for just £78 per night.

For visitors travelling with children, a great way to escape the daily rain storm and keep the children amused at the same time is to visit the MuseodeNiño; the children's museum. Located in Carolina within easy reach of San Juan, this interactive museum boasts over 100 exhibits aimed at both entertaining and educating the younger generation.
