What's the Weather like in Rethymnon in March
March is definitely the start of the spring in Rethymnon. The weather certainly begins to settle down and become more predictable throughout the month. And the number of days experiencing rain falls significantly.
Rainfall
While there are still expected to be approximately 41mm of rainfall in March, only an average of 10 days will experience any precipitation. This ensures there are plenty more dry days than wet ones. But, if there is a severe drop in temperature during the month, there is the chance that one day in March could experience some snow.
Temperature
The average temperature certainly rises in March and can climb up to a very pleasant 12°C during the start of spring. This provides the perfect climate for the many keen walkers that visit the area during this month.
Sunshine
There is a significant hike in the number of daily sunshine hours in Rethymnon when compared with the months that have gone before it. While February will only experience approximately 7 sunshine hours every day, by the time March arrives, the sun will be up for closer to 9 hours in every 24.
Sea Temperature
Though the climate does improve during this month, sea temperatures are still effected by the chillier period that has preceded it. However, with average highs of 15°C in the air, it isn't unknown for hardened swimmers and those in wet suits to be braving the water on the warmest days.
Traditionally, night time is still very mild in Rethymnon in March. Average lows for this time of the year are usually 8°C. However a record low of 0°C was recorded in Rethymnon in March 1987, so it is always advisable to have an extra layer to hand.
