Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia
January 21st sees this celebration : This religious event is held in honour of Our Lady of Altagracia the protector and patron saint of the Dominican Republic. During this festival, special masses are held in churches throughout the resort, followed by a lively parade with singing, dancing and many colourful parade floats. The city of Higuey is located around 45 minutes away from Punta Cana and is where you'll find a superb carol concert held at the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia on this day.
Duarte Day
On January 26th, Punta Cana celebrates Duarte Day. This public holiday celebrates Juan Duarte Day the founding father of the Dominican Republic who helped the country achieve independence in 1844. On this day you can expect to special masses in churches throughout the island.
