What's The Weather Like In Puglia In January

Temperature

January is the coldest month of the year in Puglia, the most southeastern region in Italy. Because of the location that previous sentence needs to be taken with a big grain of saltt never really gets cold in Puglia; it gets chilly at night at worst. Its year-round delightful Mediterranean climate gives the region mild and comfortable winters, making it an excellent place to escape the much worse weather in northern Europe this time of year.

The average temperature is 9°C in Januaryhe same as in February. At night, the mercury drops to an average low of 5°C, while in the afternoon, the average high temperature is 12°C. Not too bad by any means for this particular month. Those low and high temperatures tend to be constant throughout the whole month.

Sea Temperature

Swimming is not an option now, the sea temperature being at its annual low of 13°C.

Sunshine Hours

January is characterised by slowly increasing day length. January 1 is the shortest day of the month with 9.17 hours of daylight; January 31 is the longest with 10.01 daylight hours.

Cloud cover is quite high during the whole winter season and ranges around 58% in January, which is about the annual maximum. This doesn't mean that it's particularly cloudy all the time, though, for the skies are categorised as being partly cloudy throughout the month. In terms of sunshine hours per day, this is one of the darkest months of the year. There are 4 hours of sunshine per day on average.

Rain/Snow

Rainfall is relatively high in January and throughout winterelatively high because it's higher compared to other months in the region, not because it's particularly high compared to other places in the world. This is a pretty dry destination all-year round. The total amount of precipitation in January is 62mm, which is spread out over 10 days. This makes it the fifth wettest month, after the three previous months and April. The chance that precipitation occurs is approximately 41% and doesn't vary much. By far the most common type of precipitation is moderate rain, being recorded on 54% of the days with precipitation. Light rain and drizzle are far behind, respectively occurring on 18% and 10% of those days. Snowfall is seen on no more than 5% of the days with precipitation and is very rare in Puglia.
