What's The Weather Like In Puglia In July

Blessed with downright superb weather, Puglia is a magnificent destination to visit in August. This gorgeous region in the far southeastern corner of Italyhe very heel of the Italian boots home to beautiful hills, farms and villages, and lined with stunning beaches. Both the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea lap against the region's coast, offering easy access to other Mediterranean destinations, such as Croatia and Greece.

Temperature

August is without question one of the main tourist months in the region. Together with July, this is the warmest time of year. The average temperature is 24°C. Visitors can enjoy warm evenings and nights with low temperatures averaging 19°C and hot afternoons with temperatures up to 28°C on average. As the absolute warmest days of the year fall at the end of July and the beginning of August, both these low and high temperatures tend to decrease a bit in the course of the month, though.

Sea Temperature

If you want to go swimming, this is the time to do it. The temperature of the sea is never higher than it is in August, now averaging a warm 26°C.

Rain

The total accumulation of rainfall is slightly higher now than it was in July, totaling 30mm. This is, however, still very, very low. August has only 3 days with precipitation, meaning that there are no fewer than 28 days without any rainfall at all. The beginning of the month is the driest time of the entire year, so, naturally, the chance that rainfall occurs increases a bit as the month progresses. It rises from 17% to 24% in the course of the month. Because of the hot and dry weather, thunderstorms are the most common type of rainfall. They occur on 57% of the days with rainfall. Moderate rain might be experienced as well, although it only happens on 25% of those days.

Sunshine Hours

August is also one of the sunniest months in Puglia. On average, there are 9 hours of sunshine per day, one hour fewer than the annual maximum of 10 hours in July and the same as in June.

Things to Do In Puglia In August

Pizzica

The "pizzica" is a travelling festival that visits towns all over the "heel of Italy" in summer. It comes to an end in late August in the town of Melpignano. This traditional parade, dance and event dates back many generations and has become a popular attraction in the region. In Melpignano at the end of August, the festival ends with a bang. The "Night of the Tarantula" is a musical concert by local folk bands. This is absolutely a recommended event to attend when visiting the region in summer.

Alberobello And Its Trulli

One of major highlights in Puglia is Alberobello and its "trulli". This town consists of nothing but white and grey stone buildings topped with typical conical roofs. This townscape is unique to the regionts cultural and historic significance are the reason it was declared World Heritage by UNESCO. The houses are built with limestone, which is found in abundance in the region, and without mortar. They date back to as far as 1350.

Trulli are round buildings, their rooms centered on the central main room. Because of the lack of many windows, the room temperature remains fairly stable all-year round. What makes these buildings so remarkable, however, is their roofs, which are made up of circles of stone slabs that become smaller with height, thus creating circular domes. Strolling through the streets of this extraordinary town is a perfect thing to do on a 28°C-warm August afternoon.
