What's the Weather Like in Puerto Vallarta in July

July is well and truly into the rainy season in Puerto VallartaMexico. The temperatures are similar to June, but there is a considerable increase in rainfall throughout the month. The city is emptier as people avoid the wet weather, so it's a good time to go and check out the cultural attractions without the crowds.

Temperature

Daily average temperatures are a soaring 27°C, which often rises to 33°C and above during hotter parts of the day. Evenings are warm, too, with temperatures rarely falling below 21°C. It's unlikely you'll need warm clothing if you visit Puerto Vallarta at this time of year, but you might want to slip in a light cardigan or jumper in case the temperatures do drop considerably after dark. During the day, you'll just need shorts, t-shirts, and swimwear. Remember to pack lot of suncream as well, as the sun is strong at this time of year.

Rainfall

Because of its position so close to the equator, Puerto Vallarta experiences a tropical climate complete with a dry season and a rainy season (June - October). Despite the soaring temperatures, July sees a considerable amount of rainfall, with around 336mm falling throughout the month. It's highly likely you'll encounter some showers during your trip, so be sure to pack an umbrella and waterproofs.

Sunshine Hours

July may well be considered summer in Puerto Vallarta, but the hours of sunshine start to drop, with around 8 hours per day. There's still plenty of time to explore everything the city has to offer, though.

Sea Temperature

Whilst the hours of sunshine are decreasing, the sea temperatures are rapidly increasing in July, sitting at a very warm 29°C providing perfect conditions for swimming and watersports in between the tropical showers. The beaches are much emptier than in previous months thanks to the increased rainfall, but there are still many opportunities to explore the coast and enjoy the warm waters at this time of year.

July is characterised by soaring temperatures and increased rainfall, highlighting Puerto Vallarta's tropical climate. Whilst there may be a considerable amount of rain, there's still some great weather to be enjoyed, plus there aren't as many crowds on the beaches and around the city.
