The weather in April in Puerto Plata is very nice and makes this month an ideal time to visit the region.  The only downside is that the monthly rainfall amounts can remain high during the month.

High temperatures continue to get warmer and warmer with average highs now reaching 30°C (86°F). Temperatures are warm enough to spend every minute of the daytime hours outside. The good news is that there is plenty of sunlight to go around with an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day. Overnight temperatures are still cool enough that visitors will need to pack some layers or a light jacket with temperatures dipping to 18°C (64°F) each morning.  The average daily temperature is 24°C (75°F) making most hours very pleasant. For visitors planning a getaway, be sure to check an extended forecast before leaving home.

Some extra raingear is helpful as well as showers and thunderstorms can spring up with little to no warning. Rain will fall on an average of 10 days throughout the month and average 167mm. This part of the year is some of the wettest for the region, but that doesn't mean that it will rain every day. In fact, compare how the region stacks up to nearby islands for a complete view of the weather.  The overall chance of rain is 28 percent on any given day and visitors will have only a 9 percent chance of experiencing a cloudy day.  Overall, there is a 42 percent chance of seeing a sunny day, making the odds in the visitor's favor.

Of course, water temperatures remain warm with the average temperature now standing solidly at 26°C (79°F). Temperatures in the water are certainly warm enough for visitors to spend numerous hours enjoying the many water sports that are offered throughout the region.

April visitors looking for an affordable all-inclusive resort should consider Rui Bachata All Inclusive Hotel.  The amenities include a poolside themed restaurant, Italian restaurant, swim up bar, beach bar and one additional restaurant. There are two swimming pools in addition to a children's pool, casino, discotheque and internet. The hotel itself is surrounded by 50,000 square meters of gardens and visitors will also have their choice of numerous land and sea based activities.

The Fun Royale Tropicale Beach Resort is a mid range all-inclusive resort for those who are looking to experience everything the area has to offer while saving some money at the same time. The hotel is actually made up of two different all-inclusive resorts that together make up the Playa Dorada Complex. The resort does include a pool, fitness center, several restaurants and numerous activities and is situated just 500 meters from the beach.

The Puerto Plata Village Hotel is a four-star, all-inclusive resort. The hotel includes 385 rooms and suites.  There are three different restaurants for visitors to choose from, including Italian and Mexican as well as a casual bar and grill. With this all-inclusive resort, visitors never have to step foot off the property and can enjoy plenty of land and sea activities.  

 

With water temperatures at 26°C (79°F), April is still a good time to hit the beach. For visitors looking to get away for a while, Cabarate Beach is one of the places to do it. There are also plenty of good restaurants and bars located just off the beach that visitors can take advantage of. The area is also known for its kite surfing, so the more adventurous may want to take to the ocean.

Visitors looking for a high-end meal away from the resorts should look into Mare's Restaurant and Lounge. With a unique inside/outside dining area, the restaurant offers upscale dishes along with fantastic service. It is a bit on the pricier side, but well worth the money for the experience alone.

Another must try restaurant in the region is La Casa Del Mofongo. Serving traditional Dominican food, this restaurant offers countless main dishes and desserts with the food being prepared where visitors can see the kitchen.

One of the hottest nightspots on the island is at Ocean World. The Bravissimo show at the park features 30 professional dancers clad in 120 amazing costumes. Guests are also treated to unlimited wine, beer and rum during the show and also get free entrance into the casino. 

With weather warming up to 30°C (86°F) in April, visitors should explore one of the best sites on the island at 27 Charcos. These 27 waterslides are a wonder of nature. Visitors will walk on well-manicured trails through the rain forest on their way to one of three waterslides that people can jump, slide and otherwise play in. Life jackets and helmets are included.  These natural waterfalls make for a breathtaking adventure that can be explored to your heart is content.

Ocean World Adventure Park is another site not to be missed. Visitors can swim with dolphins, have a sea lion encounter and even swim with sharks. For the adults in the group, the park also offers an impressive restaurant that combines food with entertainment as visitors will be treated to a show performed by professional dancers. After dinner, guests can take advantage of the on-site casino or visit the terrace.
