Puerto de Pollensa is one of the most popular family resorts in the whole of Majorca. Situated in the north of the Balearic Island, backed by the Tramuntana mountain range, it offers great beaches, a variety of activities and spectacular scenery for visitors who choose to holiday there.

May is a fabulous time to visit Puerto de Pollensa, as the milder spring weather starts to heat up and summer fast approaches. The average temperature is considerably warmer than April, rising to a lovely 18°C with highs of 23°C later in the month, however a cool sea breeze keeps the weather comfortable for those who don't like it too hot. Evenings in Puerto de Pollensa in May are relatively pleasant, with a low temperature of just 12°C. You may need a light jumper at night.

Holiday makers will also see plenty of sun in May, with longer days and an average of 9 sunshine hours, a whole 2 hours more than April. There's a 55% chance of a sunny day at this time of the year, and with only a 7% chance of cloud, you won't be left in the shade for too long.

As well as an increase in sunny weather, rainfall drops at this time of the year to an average of just 30mm spread throughout the month. That being said, sudden showers and light drizzle can still sometimes occur, so be prepared and take a light jacket just in case. May sees just 9 days of rainfall with only a 21% chance of rain. Period of rain will pass quickly in May and long, heavy showers are usually unheard of.

Those who fancy a swim in the sea may want to wait until the summer months, as the water still hasn't warmed up completely after the cooler winter months. The average sea temperature in May is around 17°C which isn't freezing, but isn't very warm either.

May is a popular time for families to visit Puerto de Pollensa as the weather is warmer than winter but not as hot as the peak of summer. Luckily, the resort has lots of great family-friendly accommodation.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay on a budget, Hotel Sis Pins is a popular family-friendly option. Located in the centre of Puerto de Pollensa within metres of the beach, guests can find plenty of places to eat, drink and explore just a short walk from the hotel. Alternatively, Hotel Sis Pins has plenty of facilities on site, including a bar, a restaurant and a private terrace next to the beach.

One of the most acclaimed hotels in Puerto de Pollensa is the Puerto Azul Suite Hotel. The hotel has a peaceful location set just back from the beach but still has easy access to the golden sands. Facilities at Puerto Azul Suit Hotel include a huge swimming pool that's divided into three sections, a children's playground and entertainment in the lounge on an evening. Kids will have fun at the hotel's kids club. Rooms here have recently been refurbished and are stylish and modern with air conditioning.

 

With warmer temperatures and more sunshine, May is the perfect time to hit the long, sandy beach of Puerto de Pollensa. As it is still outside of the main tourism season, you won't have to face as many crowds at this time of the year. The resort's kilometre-long Blue Flag beach offers beautiful views of the mountains in the background.

Alternatively, Alcudia beach is situated close to Puerto de Pollensa and is considered one of the best beaches in the whole of Majorca, with soft white sand and clear, shallow waters. Featuring a playground, a range of water sports and a selection of great bars and restaurants nearby, it's easy to spend a whole day on Alcudia beach.

With over 100 cafes, bars and restaurants located along the seafront and around the cobbled streets, Puerto de Pollensa has a wide variety of great wining and dining options. In fact, you can probably eat at a different restaurant for every meal.

La Celtika has been awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for its delicious food and welcoming ambience. The cuisine is French with dishes such as langoustines and fillet steak, offering guests a change from the many tapas bars in Puerto de Pollensa. The five course taster menu is great value.

For those travelling with children, Maxim Bistro is great value for money and provides a kid's menu. Dishes include fresh fish and meat as well as pizza and pasta, so there's something to suit every taste. The bistro is conveniently located in the main square of Puerto de Pollensa, just a short walk from the water front.

If you're looking for a great place for a drink in Puerto de Pollensa, head to Palms Bar, a British pub located on a quiet side street. The lively bar is a great place to enjoy a refreshing beer or a cocktail while singing along to the nightly entertainment, including karaoke and some amazing tribute bands.

There are a wide range of fun things to do in Puerto de Pollensa in May. For active tourists who don't want to spend the whole holiday sunbathing, there are plenty of water sports on offer down at the beach, with everything from wind surfing and sailing, to jet skiing and scuba diving. For a more relaxing water-based activity, there are sailing yachts available for charter where visitors can sit back and enjoy the ride and the scenic views across the bay.

Away from the beach, Puerto de Pollensa has plenty of cycling, hiking and horse riding trails to take enjoy that will allow you to see the beautiful countryside. Puerto de Pollensa's countryside is ideal for exploring, with plenty of traditional buildings and houses dotted around. Thrill seekers can even find quad biking adventure options which are ideal for zooming over the resorts rugged mountain terrain.

For those travelling with kids, why not take a day trip to Palma Aquarium? Buses run to Palma in just an hour, or you can hire a car and drive. The aquarium is one of the finest in Europe and is a great way to spend a day. Visitors can see a huge variety of sea creatures including fish, sharks and turtles.
