The island of Majorca is a popular summer holiday destination for tourists thanks to its hot and sunny climate. Many tourists flock the resort of Puerto de Pollensa in the north of the island to take advantage of the wonderful weather. Relaxing on the long sandy beach and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities are all poplar choices at this time of year.

Summer is in full swing in August. The weather is much like the weather in July, however the temperatures have risen a little. The average temperature is 25°C but gets warmer on some days, with temperatures of 26°C and 27°C on some occasions. In fact, August has a high temperature that hits a sizzling 30°C. With such high temperatures, holiday makers should make sure to apply plenty of sun cream. The nights in Puerto de Pollensa are much milder, with lows of 19°C.  This is perfect weather for eating outside and talking a stroll along the beach after dinner as the sun sets.

Speaking of the sun, there is no shortage of it in August. The month has the second highest amount of sunshine per day, only beaten by July, with an average of 10 sunny hours a day. You are practically guaranteed great weather in Puerto de Pollensa in August, with a 75% chance of sun. Skies are almost always clear too, with a tiny 1% chance of a cloudy day.

If the temperatures get a little hot during the day, you can cool off with a dip in the sea. The water is beautiful in August, with an average sea temperature of 25°C.

Just five minutes' walk from the beach and the main promenade, the complex is conveniently located to enjoy all of Puerto de Pollensa's attractions, bars and restaurants.

For a more exclusive but still affordable experience, the Mar Calma Hotel is a small boutique hotel located in the heart of Puerto de Pollensa, just one street back from the beach. The four-star hotel is a popular choice with couples and has stylish rooms that offer free WiFi and flat screen TVs. The rooftop terrace has a Jacuzzi and the restaurant also has an elegant snack bar where guests can relax and enjoy a cocktail on an evening.

During the hot summer season, both young and old tourists enjoy spending the day on Puerto de Pollensa's 1.5km Blue Flag beach. The golden sand and blue Mediterranean Sea provides the perfect setting for sunbathing, sand sculpturing, and playing in the warm seawaters. Visitors can hire sun loungers as well as parasols which provide some much-needed shade in August.

Families will enjoy Puerto de Pollensa's smaller beach, Platja D'Albercuix, which is located next to the Pine Walk and is often quieter than the main beach.

There's a varied option of places to eat out in Puerto de Pollensa. Local restaurants serve everything from traditional cuisine to American dishes, Italian to Chinese.

Hell's Kitchen has an international menu with something to suit everyone, from pasta dishes to curries and grilled meat dishes. The restaurant is located on a pedestrian street, just a short walk from the beach. The outdoor terrace is ideal for al fresco dining in the warm summer months.

Laguna Bar provides a tropical oasis away from the crowds of Puerto de Pollensa. The restaurant and bar sits around a swimming pool where guests can relax and soak up the sun in beautiful surroundings. You can even take a dip after dinner. An extensive menu features Spanish and international dishes while the bar serves a range of refreshing cocktails and beers.

Tourists can also enjoy Puerto de Pollensa's famous 'Ruta del Tapeo'. This unique tapas crawl allows guests to enjoy dishes from some of the resorts best tapas bars, who offer a small tapas and a glass of wine or beer for just 2 euros. The route takes place every Thursday evening.

August has plenty of warm and sunny days. Visitors can take advantage of this by taking a trip to the nearby water park in Alcudia. The waterpark is just a 15-20 minute drive from Puerto de Pollensa, or tourists can get the public bus from the main marina area. Alcudia water park has plenty to keep everyone entertained, from kids to adults,  with lots of slides and pool to choose from.

Visitors who want a little shade during the hottest part of the day can spend some time shopping around the centre of town. Puerto de Pollensa has rows and rows of shops, selling everything from local crafts to designer wares. The local markets are fun too. They take place on Sunday and Wednesday mornings and offering a range of household goods, fruit, cheese, meats, flowers and craft goods.

Tourists to Puerto de Pollensa at this time of the year can also take part in the annual Pollensa Music Festival, which ranks highly on Majorcan cultural calendar. Founded in 1962, the festival has been attracting visitors for years and features performances from a range of pop, jazz, traditional and classical musicians.
