Things to do in Puerto de la Duquesa in September
Church of Santa Ana
The good weather makes sightseeing and hiking an absolute pleasure, so you might as well go around Puerto de la Duquesa and explore its many historical buildings and culturally significant landmarks. One beautiful sight is the Church of Santa Ana, situated in the heart of Manilla.
It was built in the 18th century, covering a much older and smaller basilica from the late 16th century. Its towers Torres de Chullera, were raised in order to watch over the coastal zone, as pirates often hit the area during those days.
One of them actually dates back from the Nazarite period, while the other is mid-nineteenth century, and the church itself is framed by quaint little alleys and crude green foliage, an idyllic setting for a building that has seen much throughout its history.
Marbella
Marbella is only a 20-minute drive away, so it would be foolish not to visit one of the most beautiful coastal cities that Spain has to offer. The Old Town of Marbella is wonderfully preserved and hardly linked to the city's modern and touristy atmosphere.
The street plan of the Old Quarter is irregular and typical to the Moorish era, although some of the narrow cobblestone alleyways open onto Christian style plazas. The Castle, better known as the Alcazaba, is the strongest impression left by the Arabic occupation.
An urban reorganisation was carried out by the conquering Arabs, from which Los Naranjos Plaza emerged Orange Tree Square, which is home to Ayuntamiento the City Hall, built in the 16th century and further developed in the 18th century.
There is plenty of history around the Old Quarter of Marbella, and it shouldn't take your more than a day or two to fully explore it and enjoy its charming nooks and crannies, timeless architecture and plethora of terraces and cafes.
