What's the Weather like in Puerto de la Duquesa in June

Temperature

Summer rolls into Puerto de la Duquesa with splendid sunshine and high temperatures, registering a generous average of 22°C, with nights now much warmer at 18°C at the lowest. The hotter days are expected to reach the 26°C average, which further proves that the southern coast of Spain is a wonderful place to be in June.

Humidity

Humidity is down at 66% on average, the dew point nowhere near the oppressive mark, which continues to help establish Puerto de la Duquesa as a comfortable summer escape.

Average Sunshine Hours

The days are now beautifully long, with up to 13 hours of sunshine and clear blue skies. Chances of full sunny days jump to 58% on average, while chances of rain drop to 13%.

It's now a good time to start talking about SPF lotions, as the unprotected skin might suffer from overexposure. While we all relish the sun being out for longer than usual, the UV rays can still inconvenience a holiday, so be sure to at least pack a low SPF spray when heading to the beach or while out and about in the marina of Duquesa.

Rainfall

Rainfall is by now barely noticeable, reaching a mere 11mm volume over the course of 3 days in the entire month. With just 2% average chances of clouds thrown in the mix, this all easily translates into a plethora of bright and comfortably hot days to enjoy throughout the entire month of June.

Wind

Chances of windy days die down to an average of 10%, with wind speeds below 30kmh and most of them predominantly southern breezes from the much hotter North African coastline. The winds are now mellow and dry, giving way to calm waters, perfect for diving and snorkelling around the Castillo beaches.

Average Sea Temperature

In fact, the splendid Alboran Sea reaches the pleasant average of 20°C, by now perfect for all kinds of marine activities, from swimming to diving and snorkelling, as well as boating, windsurfing and paddle surfing.

Beaches in Puerto de la Duquesa for June

El Castillo Beach

El Castillo Beach is Puerto de la Duquesa's main attraction, a superb and sandy silica slate stretching over a kilometre. It starts from the glistening Indian Brook all the way into Duquesa's marina, defined by multiple and reconditioned swimming slots, framed by different breakwaters. The water entrance is shallow and warm, making this a great spot for family fun. On both sides of the beach, rocky clusters hide underwater, making it a perfect area for snorkelling sessions.

With the water so warm and clear, many vacationers choose Playa El Castillo for numerous marine activities that don't include just snorkelling. Many windsurfing and paddle surfing facilities can be arranged on the beach or at the local tour desk, and boats can be hired from the marina for daytime tours that also include diving and swimming around the more secluded parts of the coast.

Bars and Restaurants

La Traviata

Summer is also a great time to enjoy some of the best cuisine that the southern coast of Spain has to offer. Seafood and fresh fish are at the top of every menu now, and the beach side chiringuitos are now open and buzzing with delicious tapas and fruit of the sea.

For a high quality experience though, you must get yourself into La Traviata, renowned for its stellar service and delicious menu, which mixes the local charm of Spanish cuisine with some international twists and fresh fish.

Some of the highlights include the chicken speciality with fruits, as well as the steaks and the garlic bread. Another highlight is the abundance of finely cut chips on every table, and the generous selection of liquors to pick from at the end of the meal.

The Sweet Atelier

For those with a sweet tooth, The Sweet Atelier can be found in the heart of Puerto de la Duquesa and their specialty is (you guessed it!) boutique bakery cakes, pastries, muffins, brownies and all sorts of delicious treats can be found in this little shop in Sabinillas.

The main creator of these goodies is Mercedes, an award-winning Canadian-Italian baker who dedicates every day to baking the perfect bread and creating desserts meant to astonish and conquer the tummy of anyone walking past the shop.

Slow Boat to China

For some Far Eastern extravaganza, you can always make your way down to Slow Boat to China, a fabulous Chinese restaurant nestled inside an old Moorish building the interior design mixes wicker chairs and bamboo with the faded walls and stone elements, while the lighting sets a tone resembling a most peaceful melange between medieval Spain and ancient China.

The cuisine is equally marvellous, the menu bustling with different styles of noodles and Chow Mein, as well as speciality chicken and duck dishes, authentic spring rolls and a selection of Hot Pot style meals that are just too good to resist. Overall, this place is definitely a unique experience that pops up like a pleasant surprise on the southern coast of Spain.

Things to do in Puerto de la Duquesa in June

Casares Costa Golf Club

Now that the sun is almost always out and the weather just so fine, it's a good time to go out and practice your swing at some of Puerto de la Duquesa's best golf courses. The Casares Costa Golf Club, for example, can be found near the splendid white village of Casares, and it's surrounded by the virgin countryside and its lush hills.

The greens were designed to appreciate and enhance the natural environment, sprinkled with pear, orange and avocado trees, as well as carefully manicured shrubs and smooth walkways.

The 7-hole and 5-par feature is by far the most distinguishable, and the club also provides a pro shop, a bar and an exclusive restaurant normally dedicated to club members. If swinging the golf club isn't your thing, you can still visit the course and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Casares Village

And while you're in the area, do yourself a favour and visit the stunning white village itself. Casares was designated as an important Heritage site, for its historical and artistic value, and it's nestled between Costa del Sol, Campo de Gibraltar and the quaint Serrania de Ronda.

Its Arab origins are deeply embedded in its architecture and whitewashed walls scattered around the medieval castle, further framed by 2 kilometres of gorgeous beach. The castle itself was built on a massive limestone cliff which overlooks the surrounding valleys it's of Moorish origins, designed with bold towers, stone walls and two sets of gates, as well as its main decorative features, the Arco del Arrabal and Arco de la Villa.

It's also home to the Museum of Ethnographic history, which is a good place to visit and discover more about the local culture, if you find yourself in the area.
