Temperature

August continues to bring nothing but great weather and high temperatures across the board in Puerto de la Duquesa. The average temperature is a superb 25°C, while the nights are warm and pleasant at 21°C. The high average is expected to reach 29°C on the hottest days of the month, and humidity is low at 60% on average.

These conditions paint a very appealing picture for the southern coast of Spain during the summer, and so it makes August the peak of the holiday season.

Average Sunshine Hours

The days are long, with up to 13 hours of glorious and uninterrupted sunshine, and a whopping 73% chance of full sunny days throughout the month. It is important you don't overlook the importance of SPF lotions, as the unprotected skin will suffer from overexposure.

Also make sure you stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, as the region does experience some North African dry winds during this period, which often tend to accentuate the Mediterranean heat.

Rainfall

Chances of rain are minimal at 10% on average, with barely 1mm of rainfall over the course of 2 days so expect a shower or two at some point during August, but nothing more. The conditions are absolutely perfect for weeklong holidays on the Spanish coast.

Chances of windy days are low as well, at just 6% on average, with wind speeds not exceeding 35kmh, making the breeze along the shore a welcome feeling and offering excellent conditions for sailing and windsurfing out at sea.

Average Sea Temperature

The water temperature is a splendid 23°C, benefitting from sub-tropical currents from the southern regions of the Alboran Sea mainly from the African coastline. The winds are warm and dry, while the tides are moderate and the waters clear and clean, making Puerto de la Duquesa and Sabinillas' Blue Flag beaches the undisputed hot spots of the region.

Beaches in Puerto de la Duquesa for August

Bahia Dorada

These long summer days are the perfect time to spend at the beach, and Puerto de la Duquesa does not disappoint, offering good access not only to its own smaller but equally charming beaches, but also to nearby stretches of sand which open out to the clean blue waters of the Alboran Sea.

One of the best spots to try in months like August is the splendid Bahia Dorada Beach, which can be found near Estepona. It offers a stunning view of the sea in shades of deep blue and green, and its landscape is sprinkled with rocky clusters and wild foliage, and yet it sits within an urban area, thus getting quite busy in the summer.

It's best to get there early to catch a good spot in the sun, as the sand is smooth and the water entrance is clear and shallow. Paddle-surfers can have a lot of fun around here too.

Playa La Galera

Playa La Galera is also a great place to spend time at, as it's relatively low in traffic and offers a unique view over the untamed landscape of the southern coastline. It includes an area known as Buenas Noches, and its sand is soft and beige, with a shallow and clear water entrance interrupted by large limestone rocks. It opens out to a beautiful sea, and its rocky edges make it a great spot for snorkelling throughout the day.

Bars and Restaurants

It's a good time to try out the many chiringuitos that flank the beaches of Duquesa and Sabinillas, all the way into Sotogrande and even Torreguadiaro. They're all good and they all have cosy terraces where you can enjoy some fresh seafood while admiring the breath-taking scenery of the Alboran Sea.

Ocean Bar & Cafe

A good place is Ocean Bar & Café, Puerto de la Duquesa's trendiest daytime venue, preferred by both locals and tourists. Their menu offers an abundant variety of natural juices and smoothies, healthy wraps, salads and serious burgers, as well as some yummy milkshakes and frappes. There's a happy hour between 4-7pm, so make sure you don't miss it, as they drop the prices on fabulous cocktails and turn the music up instead.

Portside Cafe & Bar

The Portside Café & Bar is another gem of the marina, and is a typical British establishment, focusing its comprehensive cuisine on European dishes. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and they also feature a pub area with high chairs and a delightful selection of ales and lagers to enjoy. The terrace opens out to lovely views of the port and its yachts and fishing boats, and they also do takeout orders.
