What's the weather like in Puerto de la Cruz in June

Temperature

June is the start of the summer peak season for Puerto de la Cruz . The weather is warm and dry with long days of glorious sunshine.  The average temperature in June is 17 degrees Celsius with an average high of 21 degrees Celsius and an average low of 13 degrees Celsius.

The nights are still cool enough for sleep to be pleasant but the days are warm enough to spend on the beach or lying by the pool. The highest recorded temperature in recent years was 36 degrees Celsius and the lowest was 9 degrees Celsius. You might want to pack a light sweater as the evenings can still be quite chilly.

Rain

June is the driest month of the year for Puerto de la Cruz with an average of 1mm rain experienced over two days. You won't need your waterproof or umbrella on this holiday.  June receives about 12 days of foggy conditions in the morning but this will quickly burn off with warmth of the day.

Wind

The month of June is fairly calm and the resort experiences very little wind. The average wind speed is just 25km/h or 15mph. The highest wind speed recorded for the month of June was 57km/h or 36mph. The wind in Tenerife can cause the temperature to peak as hot winds blown in from the Sahara desert. If you experience this hot dry wind you should move indoors as the winds can make outdoor experiences unpleasantly hot and sandstorms that accompany the warm winds are not uncommon.

Average Sunshine Hours

Puerto de la Cruz experiences an average of 11 hours of sunshine in June. This gives you plenty of sunny hours to explore, lie on the beach and go for a swim. June through to August are the peak months for sunshine in the resort and you should make the most of all those hours.

Average Sea Temperature

The sea temperature in June averages a balmy 22 degrees Celsius. There a number of water sports available in Puerto de la Cruz such as surfing, water-skiing, scuba diving and Jet Ski riding. The water is now the perfect temperature to jump in and enjoy hours of water fun.

Puerto de la Cruz Hotels in June

Hotel Sun Holidays offers very basic but comfortable accommodation in the heart of the historic centre of Puerto de la Cruz. The hotel is a 5 minute walk away from Playa Jardin and a 15 minute walk from the famous Loro Parque. All the hotel rooms are on the exterior and have their own private balcony. Facilities on offer include free Wi-Fi, a solarium terrace and TVs with international channels.  There are a number of restaurants, shops and bars within a short distance from the hotel.  This is a great hotel for families on a budget or groups of friends as the hotel offers quadruple rooms as well as the standard double rooms.

Hotel Las Aguilas is a four star hotel situated at the top of the mountains, with spectacular views of Puerto de la Cruz, the sea and Mt.Teide. The hotel offers a variety of restaurants and bars as well as a children's club to keep the young ones happy. There is a massage and beauty centre that specialises in beauty massages using organic products. The hotel offers a number of packages such as the romantic getaway package which includes a spa session, dinner for two and a box of sexy ideas in your room. There are a number of pools around the resort including one that overlooks the town of Puerto de la Cruz.

 

Puerto de la Cruz Beach for June

Playa San Telmo is a small rocky beach on the main promenade in Puerto de la Cruz. This is not a beach for swimming or sunbathing but you can spend a few hours exploring the rock pools or watching the waves crashing over the rocks. Children will love paddling in the small pools or looking for tiny sea creatures such as crabs or anemones. The beach is a short walk from a variety of bars and restaurants.  There are no facilities available on the beach.

Bars and Restaurants

Tito's Bodeguita has a beautiful outdoor garden terrace where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine while having a few drinks and tapas. The restaurant has an extensive tapas selection but be careful when you order as some of the portions are very large. The salmon gravlax with honey and mustard is a speciality of the restaurant. They have an interesting and well chosen wine list featuring a number of local wines.  You will find Tito's Bodeguita as Camino del Durazno 1.

La Piccola Italia Restaurant is located on Charko Square in the old section of Puerto de la Cruz.  The restaurant is housed in an old Canarian style house and is decorated in a quaint Italian style. They serve Italian cuisine with some of the best pizzas on the island according to Tripadvisor members. The pizzas are made with a thin crust in an old wood fired oven. The portions are fairly large so you might want to share a meal. If you dislike pizza you will find a number of pastas and a few seafood dishes on the menu.  Plaza del Charco 14.

Things to do in Puerto de la Cruz in June

The most popular attraction in Puerto de la Cruz is Loro Parque. May is a wonderful time to visit the park as the weather is dry and warm but the attractions will not be overly crowded. The park holds a number of records such as the largest indoor penguin exhibit in the world, largest dolphinarium in Europe and the largest parrot collection in the world.  There are a number of shows, including dolphin, bird and seal shows throughout the day. You will find a number of animal exhibits housing amongst others, chimpanzees, crocodiles and gorillas. If your kids get restless there is a fantastic play area called Kinderlandia. The park is fairly expensive at 36 Euros per adult, but some people have found it to be the highlight of their trip.

You should be thirsty after all that activity and Casa Del Vino La Baranda offers wine tasting of the various wines available in the area as well as an informative look at the islands interesting winemaking heritage. The building is beautiful and offers spectacular views of the Mt. Teide and the sea.
