What's the weather like in Puerto de la Cruz in January

January is probably the coldest time of the year to visit Puerto de la Cruz but that does mean lower hotel prices and less crowded beaches. The Mediterranean climate results in lots of sunshine, mild temperatures and plenty of rain.

Bars and Restaurants

Bambi Gourmet is the number one restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz according to Tripadvisor. The menu features Romanian fusion Cuisine and has interesting items such as pork cheek goulash, garlic octopus and duck risotto. They have a children's menu available and the prices for all the meals are reasonable. The restaurant is situated at Calle Enrique Talg 15. Inside you will find a cosy bar and welcoming restaurant.

Restaurant Tambo is situated on the beachfront and offers some of the best ocean views of any restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz. You will find a lovely outdoor terrace to enjoy the views from if the weather is good. They are offer an interesting seafood based menu with dishes such as grilled fish and chips or octopus stew for the more adventurous. Things to do in Puerto de la Cruz in January

Puerto de la Cruz has a more serene and relaxing atmosphere then the rest of Tenerife.

Jardin de Orquideas de Sitio Litre is a beautiful garden and colonial house. The site has been continuously owned by British Families since 1774 and the house has been host to a number of famous visitors such as Sir Richard Burton and Agatha Christie, who penned her novel, The mysterious Mr. Quinn, while staying at the house. The house remains a private residence but visitors are welcome to walk around the tranquil gardens. The gardens are tranquil escape from the beaches, hotels and swimming pools. 

Museo de Arte Contemporaneo was recently re-opened after being closed for over forty years. The museum houses one of the largest collections of contemporary art in Spain and features the works of artists such as Oscar Dominguez and Juan Ismael. The museum is free and is located just above the Tourist Information office in downtown Puerto de la Cruz.  The museum is not open on Mondays and has evening opening hours only on Fridays. You may need a guide or guidebook as there are very few English explanations or interpretations to accompany the artworks.

Puerto Pesquero (Fishermen's Quay) is a 17th century port that was once the centre and most important part of the town. It was an important trading port for the island of Tenerife. Now the port is mainly used by local fisherman and tourist boats. This is great place to find a selection of sunset cruises on a clear evening. On weekends the town gathers at the point to celebrate one of the many fiestas or just to relax. During the week current Hollywood movies are shown on a giant projector most nights for free. Grab a warm jacket and enjoy watching a movie under the stars.
