There are a number of restaurants and shops within a short walk from the hotel. Some of the rooms have charming balconies overlooking the cobbled streets. The hotel offers a pool, sundeck and free Wi-Fi.
Bars and Restaurants
Maga Restaurant is a small restaurant in the Old Town Centre, attached to a hotel that serves typical Canarian food at reasonable prices. Their paella is very popular and costs just 20 Euros for two people including a jug of the compulsory sangria. If the weather is good the restaurant places chairs and tables outside giving a lovely view of the old town. The restaurant is found at Calle Mercedes 6.
Regulo is considered one of the best restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz. They are situated in a lovely old Canarian mansion and is filled with history. The menu features Canarian food with an international flair. Speciality dishes include scallop and asparagus tartlets filled with prawns or salmon and prawn rolls. The prices are slightly higher then most restaurants in the town but the food is of a very high standard. You will find them at Calle Perez Zamora 16 in the old town centre.
Things to do in Puerto de la Cruz in February
If the weather is bit cloudy then a day trip to the nearby town of La Orotava is a wonderful idea. The town has a beautiful historic centre, filled with lovely architecture and you could easily spend a day exploring the old town centre by foot. Don't forget to stop for coffee or a meal in a restaurant on one of the quaint squares.
Your trip to the town should include the Casa Mendez-Fonseca which has a tranquil inner courtyard and a small, quirky museum which has the bonus of local wine tasting. The town has a number of churches the most spectacular of which is Iglesia de la Concepcion which can be seen rising above the town in all its Gothic glory. The town makes a nice break from the beaches.
Parque de Taoro is another nice break from the beaches and a lovely park for a walk if you want to get some exercise in after indulging in the hotel buffet the night before. The park is located at the top of Puerto de la Cruz and the walk to get there is very steep, you might want to take a taxi, but if you do walk the views are worth every step.
The park is serene and beautifully landscaped with small waterfalls hidden among the trees. This is a must see for nature lovers with hundreds of species of sub-tropical and tropical plants along the winding, well maintained pathways. A cafe can be found in the park for that very needed snack or drink to reenergise after a long walk.
Castillo de San Felipe is a defensive tower located at the mouth of the San Felipe River. It was built in 1655 and was in use as a point of military defence from 1655 to 1878. The building has been used as a hospital, storage area, bank and restaurant. In the late 20th century the local council paid for a major refurbishment to change the building into a cultural centre. The exterior has been restored to its original state and the fort is now an interesting place to explore and find out a few details of its military past. Entrance is free.
Casino Puerto de la Cruz or Casino De Taoro is a small casino in the new section of town. If the weather is rainy or if you are feeling lucky this is the best place to play a few games of chance in Puerto de la Cruz. Just remember that you must be over 18 to enter the casino so get a baby sitter or leave the children at a holiday club. The casino has slot machines, American roulette, black jack and poker tournaments. You will find a few bars and restaurants within the casino. The casino is located at Columbus Avenue 1.
